So true. Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta is my favorite venue - and is gorgeous and relatively inexpensive - but transportation to Calgary isn't.
Duane Valencia spearheaded ACU West 2004 at his own financial risk, with a committee of volunteers. Afterwards, Graphisoft US asked to take over the financial and physical organization, with a group of us continuing as the program committee. They were 'hot' to do it every year, possibly several times in several locations. They got busy with other things, though, and another event never happened.

Especially after 10 arrives, it will definitely be time for another one in the US! Perhaps with more people weighing in via this thread, we can get some energy flowing again. (People can also vote by offering to buy one of the stockpiled ACUWest polo shirts that Duane still has. <E>🙂</E> )

With GSUS support, we should offer the programs on both coasts to make it affordable to as many people as possible I think.

David Nicholson-Cole, the originator of "ArchiCAD University" continues to offer ACUE in Nottingham, UK and the Winter School in Austria:
Karl,

The SF bay area could be a good location for a west coast event. The ArchiCAD community is exceptionally strong and growing fast thanks the able efforts of Tom Simmons and Jeff Olken.

Of course my suggestion has nothing to do with my recent move to the area

Perhaps we could even do it right here in wine country, assuming people don't indulge too much until afterward.

Seattle could also be nice (I haven't seen my sister in while). That's fairly close to your neck of the woods isn't it? (At least within a few hundred miles - close by northwest standards.)

Or perhaps Vancouver. That would enhance the international flavor and really make it easy for Dwight to attend.

The trick of course is to find an attractive venue which is not too expensive (and has a good pub ).

The best deals are usually available from educational or religious organizations. A university with an architecture department (like Nottingham) is probably the most likely. I have also attended events at some retreat centers which were very inexpensive, but the religious affiliation probably rules out having a good pub on site (too bad Dionisian worship has fallen out of favor).

I don't know why it didn't occur to me before, but Philly might be an excellent place for ACU. Lots of architectural interest, easy to get to (from Europe and South America as well), and not too expensive (as I recall - certainly cheaper than NY, SF or LA).
We do have a new reseller locally and a few companies using AC that I know of.

We have several venues, but I would bet they are extremely expensive... the local convention centers and hotels require union labor (you have to pay the AV guy to plug in your projectors, etc).

How about a more central location like Dallas, TX? DFW is a major airport hub...easily accessible from anywhere in the US. Maybe the venue could be at the Gaylord Texan, a world class conference center resort 6 minutes from DFW airport.
Just my thoughts,
I'm not kidding: David Nicholson-Cole does his best to keep ACUE as inexpensive as possible - factoring-in the already planned event, the international flavor (maircan spelling), and the cultural opportunity, at least for this autumn, North Americans should consider Nottingham, a city not known for its ham.
