White shows up Gray

We've got a large teamwork file in version 9 (it's pushing 176 MB) with about 5 or 6 team members working on it at one time. For half the team (3 people), walls, fills, etc, that are supposed to be white are showing as a light gray. For the rest of the team white is still white. This issue seems to be exclusive to this file (and individual teammates) and not the copy of archicad or the computer.

Anyone else seen this or have any thoughts? I'm going to try deleting the teammate and recreating the name. I'm guessing that might work, but seems like a work around.

I don't know why this was checked for some teammates, but this turned out to be the problem:

Under Preferences/Miscellaneous
Automatic Pen Color Visibility Adjustment was checked.

When this is unchecked, white becomes white again. I thought I'd post this in case someone else comes across it and needs help.

I know. I know. It's a three building campus --one 3 story + basement, one 5 story + basement, and one 4 story + basement, with the surrounding site modelled with various meshes. And we're using all the auto-sections/elevations, and detail tool (for enlarged plans), so there's 51 sections/elevations,54 details, and 8 stories (roof, foundation bring it to in the project map. Plus schedules. It makes for a lot of ease in the auto referencing in plotmaker, but it does mean the file takes awhile to load.

The three story building is a separate .plp file that's been referenced in and there's another 20 or so modules for unit plans, some duplicate floors, the entry canopy...

I inherited management of the file a few months ago so there are plenty of things done in ways I'd rather they not be, but it's too late (unless I want to give up a few unpaid weekends). So there's a lot of excess layers and line types, etc. which can mostly be deleted, but there could be something important hidden somewhere and I don't know how to find out easily. Any tips on taming this beast would be appreciated!

If it's not causing serious problems I wouldn't try to fix it (if it ain't broke etc.). The overhaul might not be too bad but only if everyone agrees that it is needed. The bottom line is whether it will save more time than it takes.

I have found Attribute Manager to be reliable for getting rid of unused layers but I would still exercise caution with it. The simplest way to clean up layers is to hide and unlock them all and then turn each one on in turn to check if every thing belongs there. With all the other layers unlocked it is easy to move things to where they should be. I once had to do this to a very complex project that had swelled to over 250 layers. I got it all cleaned up and down to about one fifth the number of layers in about a day. It's a tedious job but fairly simple and finite.

Remember that you may have to check all your sections and details in addition to all the stories depending on how undisciplined people have been.

In AC10, this file would be about 30 megs because of the compression feature. It would probably result in faster transfers through the network because of the much smaller file size.

We have exactly the same problem but in AC 10. Cannot find the tick box in preferences any more. Anybody have any ideas where it is hidden now?
