topic Explode in Modeling

<T>I just discovered something unfortunate about "Explode" in AC 8.1
and I assume in AC 9 (I haven't checked).
I have a 2D library part that draws a bunch of splines within a 6"x6" area.
I use it often to do construction details. Instead of drawing every
piece of stone in say, a foundation drain detail, I place several instances
of the lib part, explode them and then drag hand fulls of these splines
around to draw the detail. At least, that's what I did in versions before 8.1.
Now when I explode the library part they are no longer splines but grouped
lines and all the lines of what were splines are all grouped together
not in a nested group. So, now I can't use this method for drawing or
use this lib part anymore because of how "Explode" now works.

Does any one know of a way to simulate the former behavior of "Explode" ?
Thank you,
Because of the problem concerning "explode" mentioned
in my previous post, I decided to make a "Symbol Fill"
from a collection of splines that fit into a 6" x 6" square.
I have been using this fill for detailing.

On a recent project I noticed that the file size increased
dramatically after a page of details was added to the project.
One of the details was a module file of a foundation detail
that was created in AC 6.0 and had the splines as described
in my previous post.

I made a new project merged this module into it and
copied it and saved as "Module from Clip Board".

I made another new project and merged the same
module into the project. Then I removed all of the
splines and in their place drew the symbol fill
made from the 6" x 6" collection of splines.
I then saved as "Module from Clip Board".

I then did a "Get Info" for the three module files.

The size of the original 6.0 module file was 288 MB.
The size of the 8.1 copy was 300 MB.
The size of the 8.1 file with the symbol fill
substituted for the splines was 604 MB.

Dose this imply that symbol fills are more expensive
than the set of lines, arcs, and splines that were used to make the fill ?

As demonstrated by the 288 vs 300 MB, Is any file saved in 8.1 format
larger than the same file saved in a version previous to 8.1 ?

Does anyone have any information about this ?

Thank you,
