I find that using the hotspot tool with the Profile Manager helps alot.

I added a picture to try and explain what i mean. Hope it helps.
You can also use this to make extra hotspot on gdl objects that you have created.

Yes, thank you all, especially Cecilia with the beautiful image. (Easy there 77 - down boy! )

So on my list I have:

1. Create nodes where no node currently exists;
2. Create nodes in a complex profile;
3. Create insertion points when saving a 2D library part;

Can anyone think of anything else the hotspot tool is useful for?

Thanks again.

well not so advanced method , but i use it if i want to count things , for example parking lots ( not done by archicad objects - so find and select is not helpful , or any thing similar to that ) i use hot spots i just spread it , then i select all and check the number , and the good thing is even if i forgot it .. it will not be printed .

I use them as mentioned and also when I want to line up 2 or more layouts on top of each other.
Its not so critical now in version 10 and 11 where the layout drawings have active points just like in the model.
In previous versions only the hotspot in the model would be an active point in layouts.
Even now in 10 & 11 it is easier to just throw a hotspot on the plan in the Archicad layer, then any layer combination saved as a view can be used as a drawing in the layouts and easily lined up with any other plan drawing.
Could be used on elevations as well if need be.
Hey there...

Yes i totaly forgot it does not print, you can use hotspots for refrencing anything. nice tip on counting parking lots, i will remember that one.
another one which is created by ArchiCAD is when hot spots are generated to show u an intersection point of two elements without actually getting them intersected . mmm .. not that clear ... here is a pic

lets say we have a wall , and a line and u want to see where these 2 elements intersect without stretching any ... select the wall and activate any other tool ( any tool except for wall tool ) then ( ctrl+ click the line ) , not that important because now we have guide lines

Besides all of the layout uses, I have used them for my cut sheets that our company creates. I have tragically found that if I dimension to a point on a wall (window for example) and for whatever reason that window changes, Things disappear, and then I gotta start over . Using hot spots allows me to make static dimensions that are not truly static. I just have to double-check that my hot spots are correct, but that is a small price to pay compared to losing a whole wall worth of work . I included a screen shot of this as an example. I have a hot spot at each opening and at The log wall corners.

Similar to the use of hotspots in objects, I use them to show the origin and any other reference point in modules.

In modules you can send them together with the module geometry to the A-ANNO-GEOM layer, so as to make them show only while placing the modules or checking overall project geometry.
