I am assuming you do not want a curved stair and the curved wall in under the edge of the staight stair. The easiest way that comes to mind is to use a SEO. Make a 2nd curved wall or slab which you will use to subtract the piece you don't want putting it on a non-visible layer.

If you mean to curve the whole staircase, no. You'll have to recreate the stair from scratch.

I'm also not sure what result you're seeking, but the attached image shows how this can be easily done with OBJECTiVE:

- Draw a section through the stair
- Create an elevation profile
- Bend it to the curve of the wall

Not to take away from Ralph's fantastic add-ons, a curved stair can be created from scratch in ArchiCAD. Just draw a fill in the shape of the stair that you want, then a line of travel and go to Design> Create Stair Using Selection.

To learn more look up Custom Stair Based on Manually Drawn Elements in the Reference Guide. Then you just need to deal with all of StairMaker's shortcomings.
Would it be possible for you to write a little more in detail on this way of doing it, as it looks pretty easy. i have looked at the videos but fing it a little confusing.
Kray, advice:

Find an architecture office near you and offer them your time in exchange for learning ... you will learn a lot and your time will be well spent.

You are asking questions so basic that it is obvious that you did not put enough of your time in learning Archicad. Sorry, but that is something that you have to do yourself. Spoon feeding is bad - you forget and depend on the spoon.

There is an old saying about giving a fish and teaching fishing ... and it is very true.

OBJECTiVE currently makes 3 different profile types, which all have unique properties. Two of them, section profiles and elevation profiles, can be bent to a curve in 3D. I'm suggesting that you use an elevation profile for the stair. I've attached some images to show how this type of elevation is made, and how it can be bent.

To make the profile, simply draw the polygon shape with the Fill, Slab, or Roof tool, and use the OBJECTiVE/Component/Make Profile menu to make an object from it. OBJECTiVE will prompt you to draw a line to indicate the bending axis for the profile (the plane of the arc). The example shows the results for angles of 0, 45, and 90 degrees, bending the shape in or out by 600mm. I'll follow this up with an application to your stair.

KRAY345 wrote:

Ralph wrote:

KRAY345 wrote:
i have a curved wall in a project i am working on. was wondering if anyone knows how to curve a straight set of stairs tothe wall
the attached image shows how this can be easily done with OBJECTiVE
Would it be possible for you to write a little more in detail on this way of doing it, as it looks pretty easy.

I've never been able to get the results I want from Stairmaker. It's a bit buggy, but aside from that it simply isn't flexible enough to produce the results I want. I can produce exactly what I want by modelling it.

I don't know much about your requirements, so I'll show you some of the basics (and one of my own projects with curved stairs). Following the numbering in the illustrations:

1) Make a bendable profile for the stair by drawing a section through it with the Fill or Slab tool. OBJECTiVE will convert this to a profile object, prompting for the bending axis. You want the stair to curve to an arc in plan, so the bending axis will be level (see the picture). As the illustration shows, the stair can then be curved in either direction.

2) Place the stair in plan, and bend it to the edge of the wall (click and drag). The results are shown in plan and 3D.

3) You might also do something similar with the handrail, but this time making a section profile. Again, draw a section through the profile and OBJECTiVE will make the object. Place it in the plan, use the 'Bend' tool to shape it to the wall curve in plan, and the 'Offset' tool to set the top end of the handrail.

4) You can echo step 3 to shape the top of the wall if it also rises with the stair. OBJECTiVE's 'Regular Profile' object can be used for this, bent and offset in the same way as the handrail, and SEO the top of the wall against it. The results are shown in OpenGL and rendered.

5) Some example pics from a project I applied this to. Almost everything is curved in both plan and elevation, and we went through almost a dozen (very) different schemes. OBJECTiVE is designed to shape objects without removing their intelligence (so they can be repeatedly bent, offset, rotated, and split without becoming a 'dumb' shape), which enabled me to model this without blowing the project budget.
