The profiles do update after editing though a rebuild may be necessary in 3D if it is active at the time (I don't remember for sure).

I'm not sure I understand your problem either Tom. Are you creating a profile, placing an instance then changing and storing the profile?

Any change to an existing profile should update all existing instances, except for individual dimensional/stretch adjustments.

<T>Have created a wall element in profile manager. Have edited that wall element and saved. The old element that was originally placed will not update. Have rebuilt, regenerated, etc. both in plan and section. Will not update. Am I missing some other step?

thanks.</T>

Here's what I'm doing. I have a project that was started in V12, then opened and am working in V14. Profile was created in V12. I opened the profile, then edited it while in V14. After editing aand saving, nothing happens. In V12, all the instances of the profile updated automatically to reflect the edited changed.

In V14, it appears I have to select all the original profiles while the editor is open, then "apply to selection". This can be a problem if the profile occurs on various stories.

I did notice that some of the original profiles changed to "custom" when selected on plan, rather than the name originally given. Don't know how that happened but would seem to be the root of the problem; if the names don't match, the profile obviously would not update. I wonder if it's a migration issue.

Tom the problem is when you use 'apply to selection'. I was just helping a coworker earlier this week with the same problem. When you click 'apply to selection' the profile changes to custom (and thus delinks from the complex profile you've defined). If it's custom it won't update.

Change all your custom profiles back to named profiles. Then updating should work fine. And don't use 'apply to selection' unless you want a one-off, non-linked wall/beam/column with a custom profile.

Hope that makes sense.

Gotcha. I still don't know how they changed to custom; I didn't think I was "applying to selection" but as long as I know how it happened, I can avoid it.

Thanks for the heads up.
Tom,

I think in my coworker's case, she was selecting the custom profiles on the plan, then selecting the profile in the profile manager, updating, saving the profile, than clicking apply to selection. It was something super subtle and until I made her go through her standard procedure, saying everything out loud while I watched we couldn't figure out why it was happening to her.

Basically a bad habit she picked up elsewhere in AC that usually doesn't cause a problem, but did here.

I think it is an 80% solution and I think it's a very easy 'mistake' to make because it doesn't work they way we expect it to.

It just converts to custom profile too easily and for the wrong reason. Try changing a (stored) complex profile wall to a straight wall and then back to complex profile again. Custom Profile turns up.

Apply to Selection a (stored) complex profile? Reverts to custom.

Stretch the height (or width) of a complex profile wall? It <S></S>doesn't<E></E> turn to custom. Right when you'd expect that it might.

If you have a wall selected with a stored complex profile and hit the 'Capture Element's profile...' button, it opens a custom profile, not the stored one - even though it knows what it's selecting! HWTPBWIW? Open the stored profile and give me the option to save it as a different one if I want to, just like every other application under the sun.

Or let me Edit Chosen Profile right from the modeling window!

There's plenty more that has been discussed since CPs were introduced. If this ain't all 80%, I don't know what is!

Cheers,
