Dormer making primer needed-AC10

I'm on AC 10, took a basic class which barely touched on roofs. Did a search here and couldn't fine what I need.

As far as I know there is no dormer object, so I'm using simple roof planes to do a gable dormer on a gable roof. How do I get the roof planes to intersect properly? I tried the click on one roof, command-click on the ridge of the other, then do the reverse order with those same two roofs. Got a mess. See pdf below.

I know this is basic, but I have no one else to ask, and the reference guide to AC10 is too stingy on techniques.

Doug,
I am not sure what happened but I know when you
use the "command-click on the ridge of the other"
you should not be in the roof tool (not have the roof tool selected).
You successfully made your main gable so I'm sure you can get
this to work.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies. I was being too rigid in my reading of the instructions in the reference guide. It works easily!

Now, next question. How do I get the wall on the side of the dormer to trim to the dormer roof at the dormer and the main roof above the dormer (up the slope)? I tried selecting both roofs and the wall > Trim to Roof. The wall trimmed to the main roof... too short and slope-topped under the dormer roof.

(btw... how do you get posted pdf's to show in the post?)

Doug,
It sounds like you are trying to cut the wall into two pieces vertically.
You might be able to do this with SEO.
IF you want to have the wall that goes across the whole attic floor
extend through the hole in the main roof and be trimmed to the
dormer roof you need to make the hole in the main roof as wide
as the dormer walls out to out.
Then trim the walls to the main roof then trim the part of these
walls that stick up through the hole in the main roof to the dormer roofs

If you want the attachment to be viewable in your post
it needs to be a .jpg.

Uh, Peter, this is a little embarassing, but since this is the first time I tried to make a dormer it didn't occur to me to cut a hole in the main roof. I'll try that.

A sugestion for trimming your walls to multiple roofs:

Select wall and main roof, go to 3D window, perform trim (base).
Back in Plan, select wall and dormer roof, go to 3D window, perform trim (top).

Wall will now be trimmed to both roofs.

Alternatively, use SEO, you can select all roofs and dormer walls, assign targets, operators as necessary in 3D window, Subtract with Upwards / Downwards extrusion as applicable.
