Is there a way to disable the 3d window

When we are involved in the CD phase we rarely use the 3d window, but of course accidentally clicks it now and then, resulting in a 30-1 min wait for it to generate, on a large project. Is there a way to disable this?

Close the 3D window red button in the upper left hand corner. Also, in the Work Environment (Options/Work Environment), disable "3D Settings changes bring 3D Window to front"

The only way you would get to the 3D window that way would be if someone actually issued a keyboard command (Command+3), picked it from the menu or hit a 3D view in Navigator.
