Lec, without resorting to 2D fills I would suggest another
composite then control all by layer combos.
One composite for the plan and the other for sect.
Not ideal.
But it works so long as you remember to amend both elements

Fill times two?

<T>I'm using Complex Profile walls for areas 1,2 &3.

Area 2, is a C.P. "modified" wall without insulation so I can just use a diag fill inside the C.P. that shows diag. (no issue here).

Area 3 I have insulation fill but can hide it with backround cut fill the same as cut fill pen because it's a new wall and that's simple.

In area 1: What I’ve been doing is to hide the Complex Profile's insulation fill, (which of course I like in section so any changing section views show correctly),
But, area 1 needs to be shown as a "Modified" wall so I use a "cover" fill over the top.

So Question is
Is there another way to show one contrasting type fill in section and another contrasting fill in plan without having to use 2d “cover” fill?
Hi Rod; Thanks for the reply.

quote:"suggest another composite then control all by layer combos.
One composite for the plan and the other for sect."
I might be misunderstanding this.
I didn't know you could have or control the fills inside a C.P. with layer combos. But switching between two fills in a C.P. wall is what I'm trying to do.
I was hoping to assign two fills in/to the C.P. wall, one to show in Sec, one to show in plan, with a "switch" of some kind.
How is that done with layer combos if fills are assigned internally/directly to a C.P.wall? Maybe I'm missing the obvious? Smack me if I am.

When I look inside the C.P. wall, the fill layer options are grayed out.

quote:"Can you say why 2 differing representations?
Building dept here wants walls designated if exist, new or modified.
Modified being diagonal fill/lines in plan, but the fill I have for insulation does not show as diagonal lines in plan, but as sort of xxxx's of course.
Covering over the top with cover fill works, but trying to learn a new trick if it's available.

But maybe I've just confused the question even more?
Not at all Lec, I do a lot of 2 story renovations/additions.
I control all my demo/exist/new walls with differing composites
and various layer combos.
Attached are just some of my layers/composites.
You asked to display different fills in plan and section of the same wall.
The only way other than adding a 2D fill is to have 2 composites with different fill for the same wall.
Then use one in plan and the other in section.
Therefore layer combos is the only way to control this.
Muddier still, I hope not

The way I've been thinking/going about it is what the problem is.

Yes I use layers/ combos for my saved views of plan, structural framing, Fnd etc.to get control of these views, but that's pretty basic.

I think what your showing me is the "holy grail" of wall control which I haven't really needed to get permits as a small time,(no, micro small time) design/builder. I've been trying to keep my layers and combos to absolute minimum/simplicity and it works, but is limiting.

I'll have to now lay this out on large sheet of paper and connect the dots before my brain can do the proverbial head wrap thing, so I don't go mud mucking through it all in dialog boxes on screen, in random chaos.
What I need is a more complex plan of action than I've wanted to have.
Ill have to think about this for a while.
Thanks Rod
Take care.
Be safe out there.
