<T>Hi folks!

Does exist any criteria about experience level of archicad users? What defines him like a basic, intermediate or advanced user? Does exist any list that has the program's contents (like modeling tools, documentation, advanced tools like Calculate, etc.) and what level encompasses them?

Thanks.</T>

It's a challenge to determine someone's expertise in ArchiCAD.

We have an internal benchmarking assessment based on ten specific disciplines (eg. modeling, drafting, editing, creating views, layouting, publishing, teamworking, etc). We even use it for screening potential employees.

They must sit a 100 question in 100 minutes written test, followed by a 2-3 hour, 364 point, practical test.

But to even qualify they must first register at least 80% on Graphisoft's ArchiCAD Competency Challenge. I think that's quite a good place to start for anyone, even if if is sometimes a test in 'Hunglish' more than ArchiCAD!

We have found the results of our internal assessment to be extremely accurate, both with existing and new staff. It never ceases to amaze me how many people tell me they have been using the program for XX amount of years, expecting that to qualify them. Often that just proves that they've been using it incorrectly that whole time!

Hope that wasn't too tangential to your question.

Cheers,
Thank you for your answer Link.

I did twice this test. And the result were so disparate between them because the "Hunglish" has influence...

But, would be interesting to do many of these Challenges, and, based on the average results determinate a level of AC user?

Most interesting concept but does the prospective employee get any notice as to what he or she is about embark upon at the point of interview or do you interview & then select those that will undergo your testing. Very arbitrary system takes me back to the days when a Firm I worked for in Sydney would get a days work out of someone before deciding whether to employ them or not.

But in saying all of that I do find that there are those who know how to draw on Archicad & those who know how to document using Archicad.

I think doing the exam multiple times would provide a more accurate result, but you'll need to be a sucker for punishment to do it too often!

Wayne, we are completely transparent about our process and everyone who comes in, is made aware of the process. It still shocks some people though. I should add that they are allowed to use ArchiCAD to find their answers and we do let them have breaks!

Also, this forms just part of the process, they also need to sit with a project leader to determine that they know how a building goes together.

Cheers,
The number of years of experience as pointed out by others is not a good describer of ability. I've been using Archicad since 4.1 in 1992, 19 years yet since I'm self employed and work alone and mostly mid-size modest residential projects I probably only use half of it's capabilities yet the parts I'm using I am using correctly the rest I'll learn as needed. I've taught a few people how to use it and I've encountered a few people who have taught the program yet use it completely wrong they use it like autocad no floors/levels no independent details I just don't understand why they would think thats the way, I know one person who even makes his own arrows still even though Archicad has them already.
