Stretching objects?

Hi there,

I am new to ArchiCAD, but have used VectorWorks extensively for the last 20 years - I'm having a few teething problems!!

I am currently preparing a set of details in ArchiCAD 16, and am wondering if it's possible to resize/ distort an element (say a circle) so that it squashes (into an oval), rather than scale and maintain its proportions.

I'm using the Resize tool, but not having much luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Click on the node and on the fly-out select "Stretch Ellipse"

Thanks for the reply, but perhaps I chose a bad example...

I have drawn a more complicated object which I want to stretch along the X Axis only, so that the profile distorts - please see the attached image.

Specifically, what I'm trying to do is elevate a section that looks like the attached model (which was done in Cinema 4D), so that the profile will distort more as it runs along the radiussed edge towards the corner of the table top.

Ideally, I'd like to generate these elevations by modelling these tables in ArchiCAD -maybe by running this profile along a path, or object? - but ArchiCAD does not seem too well suited to this type of task, unless I'm missing something (which I really hope I am).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

PS: I know that I could import the C4d model into ArchiCAD; but these models are not accurate enough for production drawings.

That's getting pretty close to what I want to do, but the corner pieces are distorting a little bit - did you try subtracting a round wall sections from the original? I tried this earlier too, and got close...

Any tips on how you did this would be much appreciated!

I thought you wanted it distorted?

Basically I created an "egg crate" using shells for the sections, a slab for the block and converted to a Morph so I could subtracted it from the walls.

Therefore the corner is a result of the shell.

Nice solution!

I had tried something similar, but need for the profiles to be uniform and regular around the corners.

When I modelled the table in Cinema 4D, it was a relatively straightforward process of producing the flat trim, and then bending it around a profile, but I'm guessing that this sort of operation is beyond the capabilities of ArchiCAD?

I'd love to be proven wrong though!

The C4D procedure has no equivalent in AC without doing some GDL coding if at all. The other options that I can think that "might" work is using curved beams with a complex profile or trying Ralph Wessel's Objective.

If the skirt is not that thick, you could just use an Alpha in your texture to create the shape.
