Draw the curve exactly how you want with the arc/circle tool or spline tool. Then magic wand your barrel vaulted roof onto it. You made need to dial in your Magic Wand Settings, but you will pretty accurate results this way.

Now if only we could make one single roof this way!

Cheers,

<T>I've been using ArchiCAD for years now, since version 6.0. You'd think by now I could make a barrel vault roof with my first try. But no.

I can't make the vault spring upward after multiple attempts, trying everything I can think of. Working left to right, or right to left doesn't change the outcome. Pushing the profile up the screen or down as the roof rubberbands doesn't make a difference.

I can't seem to get the software to do as I need, so must now change my design since I can't seem to get ArchiCAD to model my original intent. This is VERY wrong.

The same thing is true with the profile tool. In it's current state, it's almost unusable.

Please revise these two tools to make them usable. The mesh tool could use lots of help too.</T>

You should probably post this to the "Wishlist" columns....

and I completely agree!

Never had a problem with this before.

The barrel vault roof's direction (concave/convex) is determined by the direction you rubber band out after you have defined the shape of the barrel vault. Basically down or right will make it convex (spring upwards), left or up will make it concave (spring downwards), and you can set any variation of angles in between. Hold shift and it should give predicatble results.

The next rubber band simply defines the length of the roof.

Cheers,
After doing the outline, magic wand it. The first rubber band goes to the concave side, the second (length) goes to the convex side.

Done.

Always at the first go.

See <LINK_TEXT text="http://www.graphisoft.com/archiguide_ar ... roofs.html">http://www.graphisoft.com/archiguide_archive/ArchiGuide_Online_6o/issue15/roofs.html</LINK_TEXT>

It is the same since then.

The issue I have with the Vaulted Roof tool is that you can only approximate a radius of the vault (unless I'm doing something wrong).

Great tip. Formerly we drew the arc, zoomed in & clicked points that got close but no cigar. Never more!
Thanks,
