<T>see attached image.
I have selected a french door panel.
I have the flexibility of adjusting the side, top and bottom rails of the french door but am only limited to adjusting the "frame width" of the sidelights....how can I adjust the bottom frame height of the sidelight to match the door bottom rail??? Please don't tell me this is not built into the programming?...please.</T>

Rob,

My workaround is to use another door for the sidelight and gang it/them. Then set for no Marker and an ID that allows me to exclude it from my door schedule. Not ideal but it works.

Of course you can buy 3rd party libraries that are consistent and full featured. Many AC users swear by them.
Select and Create a Custom sidelight panel.
You could do this with the Modular Joinery object - refer to the attached image. The rails and sashes on all sides are fully and individually adjustable for every door and window within the unit. The object should be freely available from your reseller.

For some background on the object, follow the link I put in my previous post (<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=26789">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=26789</LINK_TEXT><E></E>). Essentially, it is a door/window object commissioned by Graphisoft UK to meet the requirements of local architects. It may have broad applications elsewhere too. The object is freely distributed (through resellers) to people on subscription.

The object can represent any number or doors, windows, or panels within a single unit (hence the 'modular' moniker). It was initially designed to cope with doors/windows like those produced by Velfac, which allow practically <S></S>any<E></E> combination you like. It's impractical to try to replicate this kind of product with the standard library, and hence the development of this object.

In schedules, this appears as a single item (see attached image).

Can Rob/someone post up the US version of the french door, as well as the macro that is called for in the master script? (You will need to zip them.)

I had a look at the INT code and it's quite easy to edit, only requiring very minor edits to two macros (gs_general_door_macro & ui_door_side_list). Hopefully the US parts have the same coding; and if so, it 'should' be a ten minute job.

Does the User Interface look much different?

I figured that it would be a no brainer to include a macro that "adds" two settings to vary the bottom, top, side rails of a sidelight connected to a french door.

I'll try to see how I can extract that french door GSM object along with it's scripting and post it/email it to you Peter.....

Would that "modular joinery" object do the same trick?

Just curious.

rob2218 wrote:
Would that "modular joinery" object do the same trick?

The MJO allows you to edit just about <S></S>everything<E></E>, certainly independent sash and rail widths. There is far more in this object than can be described in a single message, but I'll illustrate the salient points. Refer to the attached image:

1. This shows the main panel of the MJO settings. In this panel, you have very detailed control over the modular content, frame detailing, construction, and opening geometry. An illustration of the completed unit is shown to the left. You simply click on a panel to view and edit its characteristics. Panels can be freely added, deleted, or resized (a bit like a spreadsheet or table layout). However, it can be more complex than a simple table, because frames can be nested in frames, all of which have a completely different setout.

In this case, I've selected one of the sidelight windows, and selected the sash settings. I can not only set the left/right sash size, but also the construction and materials (see the notes on the image).

2. The sash/rail sizes can also be interactively edited by stretching in 3D or section/elevation. The sash/rail hotspots are only displayed for the window/door selected in the settings panel, but this can be changed with a toggle switch in the middle of every door/window. When the switch is toggled on, the additional hotspots appear. Only one door/window does this at a time to avoid cluttering the object with hotspots.

3. The base rail stretched in elevation.

4. The left sash stretched in elevation.

5. The top rail stretched in elevation.

6. The right sash stretched in elevation.

7. You can even zoom into every door/window and edit the characteristics of individual panes, setting the size, divisions (for something like leadlight divisions within the pane), and materials. I'm setting the top and bottom row of panes to a different size (in the opposite sidelight).

8. The result of my editing in 3D (doesn't look great, but illustrates the possibilities.)

I think this will be a much easier route than trying to become a GDL programmer (and it's free). Be very wary of trying to change door/window macros - they are shared by any number of objects, and a change that works for one may destroy others. There is no documentation for their functionality, which may change from one version to another (so be prepared to have to do the same hack following very update, or discover the hard way that the hack has broken).

Is it because this is a 3rd party software object and only given to UK folks???......What's the deal with this object?
Also, will AC15 have this much control over it's doors/window joinery objects? Is there a Multi-Joinery object in AC15 out of the box???

That illustration barely scratches the surface - it does a lot more. Graphisoft UK, which commissioned (and own) the object, have made it available to resellers around the world to distribute to customers (for free). But communication generally seems to be a bit broken and I suspect the vast majority of users have no idea it exists.

I've been told it can't be included in the standard library because - in a nutshell - it's different, i.e. doesn't use the macros that other doors/windows do and has a different user interface. It's a classic catch-22 because it has to be different to do what it does. The object is a great showcase for what GDL is capable of, and it has been frustrating to see it held back.

yeah....so the only downside is that you have to make sure you load "another" library into your BIM database...ok. That's not too bad. it's ok. Wonder if AC15 has this type of customization with regards to it's doors/windows?

Try the Storefront object with a transom. You can dig into the old school parameters and there is a section called "shape" the first option listed is a toggle to turn the transom on/off. The sidelights lower rail can be edited in the parameters as well.
