Try making your roof with OBJECTiVE (an ArchiCAD add-on). To make your roof (referring to the attached image) you would:

1. 2. Click the profile's bending hotspot to shape to the required curve. The walls can be cut to the roof using <S></S>Solid Element Operations<E></E>
The profile has a parameter to control the amount of faceting across the curve so you can find a suitable trade-off between appearance and performance.

Thank you for your replies everyone, after reading your responses I went back and tried again this time using SOE on the roof to get the shape that I want, but this seems an unfortunate work around. Or am I wrong about this, will a complex profile that has been edited using SOE be much the same as a normal roof object??

If I create the curve of the roof using complex profile, how do I get it into the shape that I want other than using SOE? I have attached an image showing the roof in plan so that you can see the form.

Thank you Erika, I did have a look first but could not find what I wanted to know, I will try again and see if I can find Dwights posts.

The roof will be finished with zinc sheeting, anyone have any ideas how i can go about modelling this, at least for the client to be able to see the idea in 3D? but preferably also so that it is represented in the elevations too?

Merci
If the roof is a single arch, Solid Element operations will trim it as you like.

As for this being an unfortunate work-around, it will have to do until Archicad has a read-everyones-mind-for-all-possible-ways-to-make-a-thing tool.

If the roof is a curved arch, a simple curved wall extrusion with the complex profile gives you the solution without trimming.

To have the SEO elements disappear and a proper plan symbol created, convert the elements into an object and hide the layers for the trimmed roof and the SEO element. [for future element updating]

As for finding my relevant posts for the complex profile, try searching the combination of "complex profile" and "Dwight"

Most useful among the returns are:

The only problem now is that I cannot trim the walls to the complex profiile roof I have created?, which wouldnet be problem except that the shape of th eroof means that the top of the walls are a special shape/height that I need trimmed to look right.

Would making the complex profile roof an object enable me to use it to trim the walls?
Making an object:

Once you are finished messing with the exact shape of this complex profile roof, you'll turn it into an object for plan view accuracy. AND you'll keep the assembly parts on hidden layers for future updates.

1: Make a top view of the curved complex profile roof.

2: From the 3D window, File>Libraries and Objects>Save 3D Model As:
Object: GDL Editable.

Make a new folder for your own objects.
Ive got as far as the SEO editing to get the Complex profile and walls as I need them. I have also managed to save as object, the only problem I have left is when I place this object the plan shows the entire CP roof and not the SEO shaped version, ie a rectangle in plan. Im guessing this is something Im doing wrong when saving my object and will go read help files.

Bit of a slog getting there but the clients little daughter especialy liked the roof at least
