Interesting.
The fills created are not identical. They are all AIR SPACE. but the fill pen differs. Merge will combine if they use different outline pens, but not if the fill pen is different.

This difference creates the faceting of the curved edge of the log.

You would still need to select fills log by log, change the fills that comprise each log to be the same and then merge... pain in the you know what.

Note also that the line-work comprising the edge of the logs on the ends are several short lengths...

Why again were you wanting to do this?

<T>Using ArchiCAD default settings, a log wall is currently converted to fills in an elevation window set to "Drawing" mode. The fills represent the faceting of the logs, so each individual log in the wall is degraded into a large number of fills. This makes 2D editing of these walls more cumbersome.

Has anyone discovered a setting or combination of settings to overide this behaviour and render the wall as a single fill or at least a single fill per log?

Apparently it worked this way in ArchiCAD 9 and earlier.</T>

Fill consolidation would at least merge all those fills. Not automatic, but fast. Or better yet don't explode your elevations! Automatic and fast.

i've tried the 'consolidation' tools this morning on some log walls in an elevation. The line consolidation works fine. The fill consolidation doesn't seem to work at all.

Any thoughts?

I convert the Elevation type to "Drawing".

I draw a 1' thick wall and convert it to 1' logs

open the elevation and select all fills, engage the Fill Consolidation dialog, specify consolidate anything, click okay and ...

nothing happens.
