Text box with several tabs

I am getting the cursor position messed up in a text box with several tabs, making a three column table (but with several tabs between columns sometimes, to get numbers to align vertically when the preceding text has a different length). The blinking I is at one point and the text gets inserted/edited somewhere else along the line.

Mac, Helvetica 7 points. Is this typical behavior?

Ridiculously, but not fun.
I write texts with columns(tabs inside) in AC not so often, because when I need them; they are too long and I create them in Excel, then simply copy/past as links in to PM.
But I marked-up problem like yours (shown in screenshot). I remember that problem with tabs was when cursor was pointed using mouse and no problem by keyboard navigation of cursor.
