ok maybe there is no answer..
To put it somewhat differently: can we make something like a shell - curved surface, that resembles curtain wall??
I want to create a curved item made of flat surfaces similar to each other like triangles or hexagonals..

Thanks again

Yes. You could make truss shapes to from something like a soccer ball skin using a veriety of shapes.

Are you interested in making something constructible, dimensionable, manufacturable, engineerable...real. Or are you just wanting to make pretend parts. Something that simulates the real thing?

Either way we can make something like this with ArchiCAD.

If you care to get a little more specific about the shapes you want for your orb, I would be interested in helping you find some interesting solutions.

Could this be created faster in another 3d based program, then imported into ArchiCAD using IFC or even as a 3d dwg/object?

Surely doing this using the standard ArchiCAD tools will be tedious, and a pain to modify if something changes?

The ideal ArchiCAD-based solution would be to develop a parametric GDL object which would be freely adjustable in every way imaginable, but it would be quite a mathematical challenge!

I'll be interested to see what ideas Steve has up his sleeve!

in a first level I would appreciate sth that simulates the real thing, however my aim is to construct a dimensionable - real thing.
I believe that we could design this construction in a RHINO environment using 'paneling tools' but the drawback is the continuous feedback to Archicad in order to correct any changes..
Thus it would be priceless to be entirely constructed in Archicad.

yes. the gussets can be modeled with snap points that will help with putting the model together.

Unless there is some point in re-inventing your own system, the idea would be to select a manufacture and model the components. That is make .gsm objects out of them.

that is what I was thinking about, however it's a time-consuming method..
I was wondering about sth like a shell that could be transformed into a polyhedron..
I want to experiment with a lot of forms and I am looking for sth quicker..
Moreover think about designing the exterior surface + the interior truss + spider system of a complicated form and after the end of the process arising out a change!! Infinity waste of time!!!
I believe that Archicad team should foresee a prevalent construction like that being constructed easier..
