<R>First time poster, so please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong section.

OK, I have a client, that works in the domestic/industrial heating sector.

He wants me to investigate, a solution which provides users with a simple drag and drop environment, so users can design their own basic heating environment.

I was wondering if archicad can provide me with this solution.

Can I build an application that allows/filters basic archicad functionality, with symbols ( <S></S>that I'll design<E></E>) of products my clients delivers?

I like the look of the eco version of archicad.

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree here. If so can anyone recommend any other software.

Thanks in advance... spiralvista.</R>

Not sure if I'm on the right track but I think having your clients install ArchiCAD solely to drag and drop library parts is a bit over kill.
Have you played that game called "Sims"? It has a 3D environment and arranging furniture layout is just as easy as drag and drop (plan or isometric)
It's more aesthetically pleasing aswell. By no means am I recommending you this as a course of action, just simply a comparision of function.
Infact you may even be able to create this furniture drag and drop environment using Macromedia Flash. And all your clients will require is the latest Flash plugin for their web browser.
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if one already exists on the web...
Hope that helps

It seems many people think they can use Archicad /or any CAD/ for playing the game "I am an Architect!" For example two friends of mine - a communications specialist and a geologist! So let me explain it - THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE! CAD programs are highly specialized products for professionals! If you want drag-and-drop environment, use Lego!

I saw 'Project Dragonfly' mentioned in AEC Magazine recently. I haven't tried it, but it looks quite clever and is possibly the kind of thing you are after -

<S></S>http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/dragonfly/<E></E>

The main selling point is that it is entirely web based, with no extra programs to install! (It even looks a bit Sims-like! )

Kliment Ivanov, No I am not an architect, I am a mathematician, you use the term "for professionals" only. All I want is pointers to point me in the right direction. I need to implement the Fokker–Planck equation, for dispersion and working closely together with an architect (professional). judging by your comment you should be quite good at formulating that equation.

Thanks Peter Clark, for you professionalism I will look into your suggestion.

splitlid thanks I will also look into your suggestion.
guys seems like google do a few really good tools

<S></S>http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/<E></E>

sketch 3d and 3d Warehouse.

This provides a really cool api to create some great mash ups with other bits of software (charlee:Macromedia Flash). You can also interface with google Earth hence local topography is done for you.

I know that this tread has moved away from archicad, but it will provide readers with alternatives.

I can also import my GDL objects library into these tools. (bit more research needed, though)

Spiralvista

also the reverse is true see <S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.graphisoft.com/products/arch ... tchup.html">http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad-solutions/sketchup.html</LINK_TEXT><E></E>
