You're right. It's convoluted and time consuming. Plus you lose any multiple-story hotlinks. GS needs to come up with a better way and good luck to them because methinks it would be a nightmare deciding what shows on each story.

In the meantime go for option 1!

<T>I have a single file that I want to hotlink in about a dozen other files because ultimately I'm trying create an animation showing a collection of previously completed projects.

Of course all these files have different story settings and so am I to understand from other posts that the only way to get the hotlinked files to look correct in the master file is to

1) save the model to be hotlinked as an object

or

2) hotlink in the various models story by story?

because both of those options are ridiculous.

Thanks so much.</T>

Mickey,
It's not ridiculous. You can create a publisher set of modules, one for each story. Bring each story in, and easiest done in the section window, adjust the vertical alignment of each story. You only need to do this once for each building. If you have multiple instances of one of the modules, drag a copy of the vertically adjusted one to its location.

The initial set up may take an hour or so for the dozen buildings, but after that all you need do is update the modules.

You probably could have done this in the time it took to whine
I'm looking forward to a screen shot of your site with all the buildings.

So for those models I'm trying to hotlink which are 50 story office buildings, each story is brought in individually then I have to vertically adjust the arrangement 50 times?

I can wine for a long, long time, and the task you're describing will still take longer than it should.

Plus you lose all cross-story SEOs.

I've documented my experience with it here: <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=32262">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=32262</LINK_TEXT>

Yes, even after "mastering" the process, I agree that it's totally unnecessary, and GS should have fixed it at least 2 versions ago. Particularly strange, as the last two version upgrades have obviously focused on catering for the larger firms - whom, I'd guess, would have a greater requirement for hotlinking multi-story modules into multi-building projects.
