It's a known bug. I reported it a while ago. I don't know when to expect a fix. For now you have to place the PDF in the active window rather than referencing it.

<DIV class="actalk-migrated-content"><T>So I have a PDF that placed as an external drawing and I am using it as a template for a drawing. I am trace referencing it in from my "working level" and for some reason when I zoom in even remotely close the trace reference disappears. I have no problem zooming when I am in the level that the PDF resides. Could this be a graphics card problem? Thanks!</T></DIV>

This is still happening in 22 with DWG's if placed as a drawing. Must be a memory problem as it is only affecting our older PC's
