Autotext use in layouts.....

Hello all.
I have several subsets in my layout book.
Each subset is numbered as it's own group.
For example: subset A, layouts 1 to 10
subset B, layouts 1 to 5
subset C, layouts 1 to 30 etc......
The layout number is set in the layout ID. I have then used autotext (#LayID) in the master layouts to get this number.
What i want now is to get the total number of layouts in each subset.
So far i have not been able to achieve this.
The autotext (#LayNo) gives me the layout number based on total number of layouts (ie...in subset B layout number 5 is listed as the 15th layout (out of a total of 45) so it displays the text 15).
The autotext "Number of layouts" displays the total of all the layouts in the layout book (ie 45 in this example).
Is it possible to get the total number of layouts on a subset by subset basis?.
As in, am i missing a setting somewhere.

There is no automatic way of doing this - a longstanding wishlist item!

There is a way.

1. Insert a very small jpeg using the drawing tool. Call it "last page subset 1"
duplicate it and call subsequent copies "last page subset 2" etc (custom name in the drawing settings)
note : use a jpeg or something that does not require a view to be saved, else it could be deleted
2. Create a master for each subset - of course they can be identical, set an auto-text reference to last page subset 1 and use the auto-text category for "last page subset one" . Then place that jpeg on the last page of the subset.
3. Repeat for each subset

In a flat folder system (no subsets) this can be handy for showing say 10 pages when the layout book has a total more than 10.
note that in the attached jpeg, the master shows 7 layouts but the subset has 8
