It seems (I hope) that ver. 17 improvements eliminate many of the gymnastics needed to have accurate live sections.

One tiny thing but nice is the multi-leader label object.

The speed is already fairly good but the background processing seems like it will be a great thing.

Core based reference lines - Very good.

I already use the 3d plan view for roof plans and am interested in using the new 3d RCP.

They seem to have been busy at GS this year! Looks to be a great release with some really useful features to increase productivity. Possibly the best release for a while?

Favourite features -
Proper 'materials' rich with information.
Priority based connections for all building elements.
Storey height association for building elements.
Curved beams. (not sure if they have a cover fill yet!)
Core based reference line for walls and slabs.
Real-time cutplanes.

Biggest negative - I'm not on subscription any more

I would say that the last few releases have been the best since 12.

13 and 14 were (for me) and most sole traders - not very relevant.

If the archi -gurus / beta testers are out of their NDA it would be good to hear a more detailed view?

Best items for me are -

Integrated BIX
Realtime 3D cutaway

Will be interesting to see the workflow of Priority based connections pans out.
I have a lot of spereate 2d details that I use

Biggest gimmick - BIMObject integration.

Cant wait to try demo

What you mean by "Not on subscription"?

I'm not Peter, but since subscription varies by country and since you're in the US... subscription here is called ArchiPLUS:
http://www.graphisoftus.com/products_archiplus.php
and includes all upgrades for a year, keyplug insurance (replacement) and more as listed in the link.

I'm just a user - but a reminder to everyone: GS - at least in North America - is raising their prices on June 1 for the first time in many years - an increase of 18%. So now is the time to lock in the old prices. My personal ArchiPlus contract is expiring May 31, so I was able to sign up for a 3 year subscription at the old price.

Back to the topic (17): could be the biggest game changer since 10 IMHO. Lots of exciting stuff.

Sorry, missed an "I'm" out of the sentence. Edited to be clearer!
As Karl says, normally we are on a maintainance subscription (MES) costing around £4-500 a year for free upgrades, support, and discounted training. We cancelled it last year before AC16.

I've watched a lot of the videos (not all), and I have to say, very nice GS/

Very Nice.

2 high quality Version upgrades in a row so far. (in fact 3, since v15 was also very solid, and I still use it on my slow computer, thanks to its stability and less need for CPU power).

If I have one regret, it would be that Stair tool still remains lagging (as far as I can tell), but so far I really love the live cutting planes (what becomes of the traditional Marquee tool? Is it still available? It seems from the context menu of the demo videos that it's still there. It was really useful being able to cut at odd angles and the live cutting planes seem limited to the model bounding box parallel planes. Also, can you rotate the cutting planes?), the Building materials improvement also looks like a much needed improvement, and I hope new material (and fill) creation is equally updated,...

....and THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! GRAPHISOFT for finally fixing the correct display of SEO's on plan view!!!!!

I can't tell you how many times (even in the last few weeks) I've had to resort to the old work-around of saving a .jpg image file of the top view in Axonometric on the 3D window and then saving that image as a worksheet and then scaling it to the right size by referencing the floor plan through virtual reference and then finally using virtual reference again on the floor plan with that image to trace the correct SEO cut of a cut element just to have it display correctly on plan.

I look forward to the actual release and trying out the actual improvements, and hope there are other "hidden" improvements.
But all in all, congratulations on what looks to be a very solid release, GS.

Nice work.

Cutting planes can easily be rotated in plan, elevation and 3D - in any direction (horizontally or vertically).
They can also be reversed.
You can also have multiple cutting planes - as many as you need I think.
......

Barry.

Really hoping for it too.

With all the improvements they've made in other areas of the program, in the last couple of versions (most notably the Morph tool, Curtain Wall Tool, Parametric Association of building elements to storey height, Linked Connection to slabs, Profile Manager, Shell tool, etc), they now have all the ingredients for a really kick-a5s parametric, easy-to-use and intuitive Stair Tool that's robust and versatile enought to handle almost any kind of modern stair (and even some classical and traditional ones).

My only fear is that they might end up over-thinking it (like they some times do) and coming up with a clunky solution that's versatile yet difficult to figure out, use or just plain adapt and modify on the fly.

I'm curious as to what "software" was used to make the ArchiCAD 17 PBC Concept Demo video on their website which shows off the new Building Materials and Priority Based Connections in a cutaway section video (with live cutting planes) of assemblies on their Youtube Channel shown below.

<LINK_TEXT text="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CaZQUy ... r_embedded">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CaZQUywIxY&feature=player_embedded</LINK_TEXT>

The practical part of me says that they probably exported the model to Cinema4D (more likely) or Artlantis and did the animation there coordinating the materials through the respective addon.

The wishful thinking part of me is hoping that certainrumors are true that GS finally dumped a certain aging and out-dated render engine in favor of an updated one from a sister software and which takes advantage of the new materials interface and properties.

But that's probably just wishful thinking on my part (unless a Beta tester can confirm otherwise - assuming their NDA allows it).

Given the proliferation and availability of lots of third-party render engines (some with even direct add-on connection to AC's 3D window for live Real-time rendering - like Maxwell Fire, and Octane), I get the impression that this probably isn't GS' priority at the moment.

Still,...... one wishes.
....and hopes.

Biggest negative - Not on subscription any more

What you mean by "Not on subscription"?

Sorry, missed an "I'm" out of the sentence. Edited to be clearer!

As Karl says, normally we are on a maintainance subscription (MES) costing around £4-500 a year for free upgrades, support, and discounted training. We cancelled it last year before AC16.

Uff. For a second there I was thinking that there will be no subscription for AC17.

Same old render engine in 17 I'm afraid.
Another wish for the 18 list.
