the problem is the following:
The window default settings are prepared for a brick veneer wall. (It was a wish from the US.)

If you place this window into a wall, which has no composite layers, or its thickness is not big enough to have the reveal depth+ frame thickness + something little, then an error message appears.

Please set the window's parameter before placing it into the wall, also set the reveal size.

I hope it helps.

Gabor

Thanks for the feedback. Out of the box errors like this are challenging to say the least for new users. What is the minimum wall thickness that will except the default settings without errors? I teach a beginning class and don't want to have to confront this issue during the course.

If some users are requesting brick specific parameters to be pre-set, perhaps it would be a more prudent choice to offer a different window object, or ship Archicad with pre-set favorites to enable this for those users. All architects in different parts of the world have different common practices and this certainly makes Graphisofts job all the more challenging. The work I do almost never uses brick veneers and I know that to be the case for a large number of users on the US west coast.

<T>Has anyone else out there had a problem with the trim causing problems in 10? I have been using the template 10 for US content and everytime I put in a window with trim associated to it, I get the message "group operation error at line 879 in the 3D script of file wa_trim_us_10.gsm...it doesn't matter if it is a casement, double hung, awning, etc, as long as there is trim, I get the message. I have tried doing a new and reset, but I still get the same message. Any suggestions out there??? I sent an email to tech support a while ago, and they are aware that this is a bug. I'd say a pretty BIG bug!!! Any help would be appreciated!</T>

This is a known bug that is particular to the Mac library. I found that even if I turned off casings I still had problems. I was told to use the Win library and to keep casings turned off also, but it seems to work ok with casings turned on.

I'm not sure the difference between Mac and Windows library parts as I always thought they were the same. Apparently there is some kind of difference.
Could you post a PLA file with a wall and a problematic window in it? I tried it both on PC and MAC and no errors. It must be something in a particular parameter setting combination and I would like to figure out what is it.

Graphisoft is on it.
There shouldn't be any difference between the Mac and PC libraries. I think it is more of an operating system issue. Do you know what is really bad? I was doing a demo for a group of 30 teachers from the state of Utah and I go and put in 5 or 6 casements. When I go into the 3D window in open GL I start getting these error messages and all I see is an empty opening in my wall. Then when I clicked continue instead of stop, all my walls start disappearing in 3D! It wasn't pretty. I had to do some fancy explaining why this was happening. Anyways, that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Actually, during development there is only a PC library, we create a MAC version from it when development is completed - so there are no differences.
Do a "forwad merge":

- make a template of a New and reset file
- merge the template into it

In the Attribute Manager, purge all unused attributes.
Also, delete everything except for a Wall with the problematic Window in it.
Then save as PLA and ZIP it.
Then hopefully it will be small enough.
