Now, it's not fair throwing out a statement like that and then having "draft" as your location in your profile ... so where is the middle of your nowhere? <E>😉</E>

<T>Hello All

Would anyone know how to cut and paste shadows from the
unlinked model to just say the "model space" in Archicad 6, I'm using
archicad to do some modelling and finishing of the working drawings in
AutoCad and wouldn't mind dressing up my elevations a bit, by
pasting the shadows into my DWG file.

Cheers
(Oh, the agony of hearing the phrase "finishing ... working drawings in AutoCAD" )

You don't need to unlink the model. If the elevation is linked, just select all, copy, and paste to the right to get linework and fills.

If all you want are the shadow fills, turn off "vectorial 3D hatching" in the section settings, but of course turn on "vectorial sun shadows" with a unique fill. Renew the elevation if unlinked (otherwise copy/paste as above if linked).

Use Find & Select to select all fills using the special fill that you uniquely used for sun shadows. Paste these into a floor plan, or another blank section and save as dwg from there...assuming that 6.0's dwg translator will save fills as hatches. [I just tried this in 7.0, and the oldest version on another computer is 6.5, so I can't check 6.0 for you.]

Others may have better ideas...

Thank You Karl for you info.

I brought Archicad for the fact that you can produce quality
working drawings from an unlinked 3D model.
The only reason I'm still using Archicad, is that Im working
about 1000km in the middle of nowhere, and I have
to communicate by email, by sending my dwg files to the
engineer who doesnt use Archicad.

I knew I would get bite.
Thanks for the help

cheers
agree that fine working drawings can be produced in
Archicad, albiet my office is a long way from an engineer
and still have to supply drawings in Autocad format.

Lots of us communicate with our engineers using dwg. More than a few of us are one man offices in the middle of nowhere. <E>😉</E> ArchiCAD exports/imports dwg, you realize? Naturally, dwg support is vastly better in 9.0 than in 6.0!

Cheers,
Now you say this, I think I might have look at Version 9.0
I've would have to say that I've always had dramas with
exchanging drawings into different formats. I dont like the
idea of working on a project, and having the drawings
come back to when the engineer or whoever has printed
them off and sent them to you with the lines dashed when they
should be continuous, text rotation problems and the rest of it.

Anyway, now I know how to cut and paste my shadows, I shall
retrieve one of my computers of the footpath.

Cheers
