Changing beam line types on different drawings

I want the beams to appear with dashed(overhead) lines on the first floor plan and solid on the second framing plan

I draw the second floor framing plan on top of the first floor plan.

Ive adjust the cutting plane so it is not over head in the framing plan but not having much luck

I would like to avoid having to draw solid lines over the beam so they look right

This could be a tricky one for you. I have only modeled structures lately (no plans required) so I'm not sure about the details. I believe you can get the solid lines on the floor above but not on the home story.

The typical approach would be to draw the second floor framing plan on the second floor. Another way that might work for you is to make another floor framing story between the first and second floor at the same elevation as the second, but this will be a problem if you are using the elevator parts which don't play well with zero height stories.

I need to show the framing on top of what is supporting it, so it needs to be on the floor below

Interesting this could work

or

Draw the framing on the second floor like you suggest and shut the wall layers off and superimpose it on another drawing of the first floor in the Layout with transparency turned on so you can see both drawings at once.

It would very nice/much easier if you could control this in the model view setting

This actually works for me.
For Beams you can set a linetype for outlines and overhead lines.
If you use the Projected with Overhead display option then if the cutting plane is below the Beam it will be drawn with the overhead lines (dashed), if it is above the Beam, it will be drawn with the outlines (solid).

It appears it is a bug in ArchiCAD 17. Luckily it is already set to be fixed with Hotfix #2. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It's September 2014 and I'm still having this problem in AC 15 and now AC 18 also. I have struggled with it for WAY too long. As the previous poster said, what am I missing?

No matter what I do I can't get beams overhead to show dashed on a lower floor (beams overhead) and solid on the floor above (looking down on beams). Seems like this should be so simple, but it's not. Ive got the same problem as what's shown in his screen shot above.

It is quite easy (unless I am misunderstanding something).
See the attached imaged.

Beam is place on the lower floor at a height above the cutting plane and set to show on home storey and one storey up.
Floor plan display is set to "projected with overhead".
The line stile for overhead is set to dashed and the line style for uncut (projected) is set to solid.

The same works if you place the beam on the upper floor below the cutting plane and set it to show on home storey and one storey down.

Thank you, Barry. This works just as you've shown in AC18, so I'm all set. It doesn't work in AC15 (I just upgraded last week, this is an older project) where I've had all the trouble.

So from now on I'll be able to do this just fine since everything will be on AC18. I read that this function was buggy in pre AC17, so that's probably the case with my AC15 file.
