archicad bug report crash

Hiya,
I was just doing some work on Archicad when a pop up/ app opens itself and tell me there was a problem on my archicad. As I am a new user to mac I quit the BUG REPORT app thinking it was a malware itself ... First, how comes have I never been told about this bug report? Am I right thinking it is graphisoft/ AC related software?
Then and that's the main topic: I read that I could find my recovery files in my library/ graphisoft file/ autosave datas... and that I would need to change the @lock.T file for pnl to make sure to collect my saved datas. I just did so and my archicad project is back to what it was two days ago !! All the files in a special folder disappeared as soon as I changed the .T file !! Now, I am kinda frustrated ... as I have to redo it all again! Is there a way I can get my files back? How can I disable bug report or set it at a time I won't use AC? And overall what should I do in the future concerning my files? Will that happen reguraly or NOT?

I'm sorry if this answer will not be particularly useful for your current problem, it will be something to think about.

Make sure you don't rely on autosave to save you. It's bad policy to rely on something like that if it's critical. Start making it a habit of hitting ctrl-s often and then backing up your work to another location on a regular basis (length of time determined by how much work you willing to lose for convenience).

There are commercial solutions here as well as open source ones as well. Things like version control software or backup software will do what you want depending on the level of sophistication you need.

Next time this happens, send the report, it contains information about the crash that helps Graphisoft eliminate bugs (the bug report application is in the ArchiCAD application folder, it is named GSReport). As to your file recovery, you should try to open the file where it is saved (you are saving as you work?).

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

What I've been doing for a long time is ALWAYS working with two copies of the same file, doing "save-as" back and forth.
ie myfile01.pln and myfile02.pln

And although I think the official word is that the bpn file is not a back up file, (someone correct me if I'm wrong), it has saved me in the past,
before I started doing the two file system with AC. And now two file system off-site.

You might want to try an off-site back up services.
These two are free.
Microsoft's Skydrive here: www.live.com (25gigs?)
And DropBox here: www.dropbox.com (2.+gigs)
I've timed them against each other and both took
about 8 min for 26meg pln (working in the backround).

On the contrary, my understanding is that a bpn is exactly a backup. It is simply a pln, just is one hard save behind.

With all due respect I think your leapfrogging over two files is a little redundant actually. It seems like a lot of work to do what AC does automatically.

It's great to know bpn really is a back up to last save, (as I've used it). I may be new to AC, but 25 yrs of working with pc files and other things, has taught me to be more cautious than most.
It's just the way I work.

Lec, if you're looking to backup multiple versions of a file, you can look at something like CascadePoint

For offsite, have you tried Mozy? It's cross platform, automated, runs in the background and gives you 2 gigs for free. The feature I like most is that backup sets you create for online storage can additionally be backed up to any (local or network) drive that has been assigned a letter. When I want to restore the previous version of a file that been screwed up somehow, it's quicker to search the local file system.

I like Cascade's auto multiply versions and thanks to you I set that up this morning.
But 99 versions? Not even I am as cautious as that:-))
So I'll be testing it out as well.

I guess for certain types of work, it might be useful. Programming comes to mind - although 99 might be excessive even there... One wouldn't know which version of the file was the last good one.
