<R>Often I need to add one or more polylines to my stories, but I always see them disappearing, displayed behind slabs, walls and other elements, when they are drawn.
Where do I change the default display order of a polyline without using the display order tool?
Erika gave the steps - but unfortunately, there is no way to specify the default for subsequent lines. Sometimes, moving the hiding object backwards helps. Othertimes, you just have to bring each new element (polyline) to the front.

My fingers have memorized this (Mac) sequence to bring a just inserted element to the front: undo/redo/bring-to-front: cmd-z/cmd-shift-z/option-uparrow. Not that it is any fun. <E>😉</E>

Cheers,
By default, 2d elements are automatically placed 2 display-order levels above 3d elements; so the slab in your illustration must have had it's order modified by at least 2 levels (out of a possible 14).

It may be easier to leave slabs with the default setting if at all possible, and adjust the order of the parts that need to be hidden backwards to avoid future 2d elements getting obscured - as you have found.

I'm also fairly sure that the display order is <S></S>not<E></E> stored with each view. (unless this is some fancy new feature of AC16 that they haven't mentioned yet! )

Hi Erika and Karl, thanx for commenting so swiftly.
It seems there are two approaches to begin with. One is, I have to continue using the display order tools for placing my lines and polylines.
Secondly, as you suggested Karl, I also tried changing the display order of the elements overlapping my polylines and subsequently the polylines displayed as wished.
I guess this will be my preferred way...

Thanx a lot

It could be nice though, if I could specify all lines, arcs polylines et cetera to be placed at the absolute top level of the model/story, as I wouldn't draw lines, that go into invisibility. Just one of these small conceptual mishaps, I think

Hi Peter, thank you for commenting.
In alliance with your post and according to this wiki-article Display Order, the polylines should be arranged on top, but sometimes they slip beneath a slap or a wall. Now at least, I have a way of getting around my hiding polylines.
