Hi splitid, ther reason for this is probably, as samovar suggests, that there is no 3D content in the DWG object you're importing.
If you don't have access to any Autocad variety to check, download a free DWG viewer (Solidwork's eDrawings has a Mac version too) and check it out.

You have to set the DrawingUnit at import to what is is in the original DWG file to size the import correctly. A UK door might have 1mm, 1cm or 1m.

The DU is set on the first page of the translator. Or you get a dialog prompt.
Not difficult.

thank you thomas,
i have made a new translator which now has the correct size.
but how do i now use that object?
when i place it, it does not insert into walls or show as 3d.
it only shows as a 2d object.
I emailed Nicholas Barclay at techgraf.co.uk in 2005 who produce the FastrackCAD Portfolio asking for GDL.

He confirmed that most of their files were 2D and the 3D was not parametric. Whilst they have previously produced 3D content for sale, he noted problems financing a 3D database. The manufacturers couldn't see the value, and he couldn't demonstrate a strong demand.

Everyone! - email techgraf and ask for GDL objects.

wow, thanks guys for that, really apprecieate it, so as i see it then, some dwg files can show in 3d and be placed in walls etc.
but, fasttrackcad does not.
