topic 3D window panning/navigation in Modeling

<T>This might be a little hard to explain. For a while now (ever since i started using AC) I have been having seemingly random and intermittent problems with panning in the 3d window. Normally when you push the mouse up and down to rotate or flip the model vertically it will pivot or rotate around a point somewhere in the middle of the model. Sometimes however when i do this it seems to rotate from a point way above the model so that it swings like a pendulam which makes it really difficult to navigate. i can usually solve this by going back to plan view and reentering the 3d window again but it is a nuisance. The same thing happens when panning horizontally sometimes too. And it happens even when nothing has been selected in the 3d or plan view windows. any ideas? Is this a bug?</T>

This is somthing that i hate in AC too.... But i dont have your problem...

If something is selected in 3d window then archicad will swing as u say and that SOOOOOO STUPID.... I gueass that if i selected something i want to work with it and i want to rotate around that object not around something out of range ....

Your archicad swings if something is selected . . .
if nothings selected it must work normaly and not to swing
Try to draw only one one wall and then go to 3d window without selecting it
it must work good
if not, try to download latest drivers for your graphic card
only SHIFT + middle mouse button

AND try to use ORBIT command from menu
if u start orbit comand and archicad swings

REINSTALL ARCHICAD

this is annoying problem man !

The white crosshairs you'll see if in orbit mode (you won't see it if your in "temporary" orbit, shift + mouse wheel)
EDIT: the crosshairs are grey over a white background.

Okay so how do I change the target then? Doesn't it automatically centre to whatever objects you currently have in your model or marquee?

Oh, now I see what your saying (and I didn't answer your question).
I can orbit around the center of screen cross hair, zoom out..... and then back in & then the pivot point is way off center (off screen).

I can re center the pivot to center screen, but it's inconsistent in how it's done. One click works, the next doesn't. I don't have to go back to the plan view though.
