topic Hotlink Modules - Remodeling / Demolition in Modeling

<T>Can someone explain the best method for setting up a project that uses a 'base model' for the existing building and then hotlinking it into the 'new construction' model? I have doors and windows from the existing building that I would like to turn off, keep the wall turned on, and insert a new window/door or even insert a larger window/door in the same opening?

Thank you for your help...</T>

There are a few different approaches to this; dependant on personal choice and complexity of the project.

Eric Bobrow has a well developed article explaining the merits of each on AECbytes:

<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.aecbytes.com/tipsandtricks/2 ... hicad.html">http://www.aecbytes.com/tipsandtricks/2008/issue26-archicad.html</LINK_TEXT><E></E>

You can't turn doors and windows off using layers. In virtual building terms you have to demolish a section of wall containing the door or window and replace it with a new section. You should amend the object ID for the affected element so that you can set up a rule to exclude it from your window schedule.
