Oreopoulos, I feel your pain. I really do. However, you should have realized (like me) by now, that agitating for improvement and sometimes pointing out shortcomings in general ( The Emperor is naked!!!) in certain company, is nothing short of banging your head against a brick wall. Particulalarly when as someone else mentioned before, everyone else seems blissfully content with status quo, (despite the frightening pace of improvements in other BIM solutions), and you seem to be the only one (and you are not , believe me, despite what they may want you to think) who thinks that what we have can be better. And also when the likes of KeesW and ThomasH stoop to what you rightly regarded as 'sad' and sadly 'personal' reponses to your arguments (unlike you, I don't see anything polite about "Please stop your wailing unless you have something NEW to add!", but maybe that's because I'm also 'wailing' myself so I wouldn't really know )

It's rather unfortunate that, much like the world around us, to point out shortcomings and sometimes what is just not right, is to invite wanton attack and the heavy hand of conformity slapping you into submission and to accept the panglossian bliss of status quo. I however think you should still keep talking, and keeping 'wailing' for as long as you are able to, Oreopoulos, otherwise ArchiCAD will indeed get stuck in neutral. One of the reasons I stopped posting is because I realized from the wishlists that a lot of the priority really was placed on productivity and effeciency refinements as opposed to new features (funny, .....I always thought that a simple feature such as the ability to rotate an object in 3D without the help of GDL in and of itself, was or would be a surefire productivity improvement particularly when you don't have to 'fake' the effect afterwards and spend even more time doing that. But what do I know, really?). All this, of course translates as; most people <S></S>really<E></E> are happy with what they have vis-a-vis AC8.1 and Graphisoft will respond ( and rightly so) only to where there is greatest pressure to improve. So no new features until Scott or some other lurker comes along with a fancy new and simple way of doing something in Revit that would take 10 or more workarounds in ArchiCAD. I believe those already exist anyway

So unless Graphisoft has changed their policy to allow only positive, flattering, rosy, exalting posts as criticisms of their products and services, I think you should still keep posting as much as you feel you need to be heard. I also commend the fact that you have not resorted to personal and pathetic responses of the kind of KeesW and ThomasH, and would urge you to keep refraining from them, and if anything just ignore them.

Another (fellow)'Wailer'
(hey Bob Marley would approve, no? )

PS. If all else fails, learn GDL , that's the GS way after all. Have a flat tire? Learn GDL. Having a bad hair day? Learn GDL. Trouble with the Bills? Learn GDL ..... ok I'll stop now

<R>Dear Archi-Talkers,

We are happy to announce on ArchiCAD-Talk that ArchiCAD 9 will be released in September 2004. Shipment will start with the INT, US and GER versions followed by other localized language versions over the coming months. Based on the results of extensive beta testing we are confident that this version will be the most robust version of ArchiCAD ever. Please check www.graphisoft.com for the official press release on ArchiCAD 9! And... enjoy!
I have just looked through the AC9 demos on AC's web site.

In one word: Impressive!

It's obvious that this time, they've made user experience the first priority. (Dragged copy remains selected, dockable palettes, savable user environments ["profiles"], Lightworks, better PDF integration, etc etc).

Take a look!
My impression is quite different: there are many new productivity features. Perhaps some are subtle, but they add up to a must-have upgrade IMHO, even without the new LightWorks rendering engine. LightWorks is like icing on the cake! <E>😉</E>

Yes, many wishes are still not granted, so we may have to wish louder. <E>😉</E>
My first and basic wish would be when are we going to get walls that don't have to be vertical?

As for the rest, IMO, it should've been named 8.5 not 9... BUT, the optimization for OS X is very welcome!

I see your point of view but if you take a look to the wish list and polls here only 1-2 made it here. Most of the new features may help in increased productivity but i cannot expect a new version with mostly productivity improvements.
The only important working feature i see it the text tool. Ok for the docable palletes and the user profiles but if you would have to choose wouldnt you choose the text tool?

I hope the feature list is longer. I was hoping for much more after 2 years

I think its more, if we put in this wish in here what will happen over there.

We all have our wishes and hopes for the coming versions of ArchiCAD but we can't forget that they have to be implemented into the existing code. What I'm basically trying to say is easier said than done, well in this case easier whished than made true.

I, like Karl, belive that there is enough new content/features to warrant a full version upgrade. Just take a look at the new work environment, coverfills and not to forget the seamless DWG intergration, just to name a few.

My 2cents.
Cheers.
You said about dwg integration..Is that critical? Hardly. The text editor was critical and is a great feature. Hatches on slabs roofs etch is another great one. Saves time. They didnt even change the stairmaker witch is the longer poll in the wish list.
I totally agree with this statement! The number should've been 8.5...
It would've been 8.2 if it weren't for the new dockable palettes and user profiles.
Ben

Ben archistair is third party and archiwall and and. Stairs are NOT chairs and tables to be provided by third party.

We were asking for differect section-plan fills for walls (to say smthf basic) and was ignored as almost ALL of other wishes of all users.
To inform you docable pallets are 5 minutes of work if you have ever made code with delphi or visual c++ and we could live without it.

If you boys say its ok... then we could have NO of our wishes implemented.
The reason i left autocad behind is they thought we were fools. From version autocad 2000 to 2005 we have features that we ought to see in 1 version skip.

I could shut up if it was 8.3 or 8.5.. but 9???
PLease make a list of all our polls (or the most visitied ones) and see.
If OUR opinion does not matter then we should be told so.

I was really hoping for some features of the many asked here and we get only 2 for design (text and hatch).

Dr wrote:
well I just found the first glitch with AC9. The Quick time movie clips will not show, no way no how. Downloaded QT 6.5 (the very latest) Installed QT. Tried three different qt movies on AC9's whats new. No go. Downloaded the QT movies to disk. Still can't make them work. Apple and AC 9 don't like each other allready.

Have you downloaded the techsmith ensharpen codec for quicktime, it can be found at <LINK_TEXT text="http://www.techsmith.com/download/ensha ... dEnSharpen">http://www.techsmith.com/download/ensharpendefault.asp?lid=DownloadEnSharpen</LINK_TEXT>
oreopoulos.
I hear what you are saying, I think that you will find that most, if not all of the new features are indeed wishes.
I belive, from a reliable source, that Graphisoft has a wish list with some 5000 wishes and growing every day.

I agree that maybe some important issues may have been over looked but as I stated earlier there are enough new and fantastic features to warrant the name ArchiCAD 9.

Cheers.
As simple as that.

If they granted all 5000 wishes what would they put in ArchiCAD 10?

Probably 4500 bug fixes!
