creating pitched roof

help me in creating Pitched Roof .i am learning through interactive traning guide(hungary microsoft office and Massaros house),but both have flat roofs.help files are little difficult to understand.

for eg creating a simple gable roof for a 11 metres\9 metres building.
the ridge is at 5mts (9mts wall)
i tried the following steps bellow:
1)i selected the roof setting
2)clicked on setting dialogue
3)entered to current story & to project zero.
4)entered roof slant angle

here the vertical eaves height and roof height are set at 213 & 199 respectively, and cannot be changed(greyed)
how do i change these settings?

5)selected polygonal method
6)clicked on first & second node respectively
7)clicked the eye ball cursor to give rising side for the roof plane.
8)licked on the 4 nodes to complete the contour.
9)repeated the procedure for other side of the ridge.

ended up as shown in the fig below.

If all these steps are correct secondly tell me how to complete the roof, i mean the areas marked by arrow in the image below.
1)how to complete the roof projection.
2) " " " coping area.

You need to change the Cut Fill of the roof from a Composite Structure to one of the other fill options.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

For a simple gable, select the rectangular geometry, not polygonal.

Your first two clicks are the pivot line - where the roof rests on the outside wall. Your next two clicks will be the opposite corners of a roof plane.

It is easiest to snap the lower edge to the lower wall and to terminate the upper edge before the ridge.

Then, use the pet palette to stretch the lower edge to provide the desired overhang. Mirror the roof plane to the other side of the building. Then with one roof plane selected, ctrl-click (cmd-click Mac) the upper edge of the other plane. Deselect and repeat with the other plane. The result of the ctrl-click is that the ridges will extend to their intersection and the roof edge angles will join properly.

It is sometimes easier to just the auto hip roof method. Select the hip geometry and magic wand the outer walls. You'll be asked for pitch and overhang information. The entire hip roof will be generated. Select and delete the pieces not desired and use the pet palette to adjust the remaining pieces to the desired geometry.

Lots of ways... all in the manual and the downloadable tutorials...

since in my case ridge is not at the centre i couldn't mirror, i did it manually.i even managed to miters the roof edge.
can you please elobrate @ the OVERHANG USING PET PALETTE.

This is one of those things where one needs to learn ArchiCAD as a whole rather than jumping into a single tool.

All polygonal elements in ArchiCAD behave the same way (more or less) - for reshaping, offsetting edges, cutting holes, etc. So, this is not described in the Roof section of the user guide.

Look in the Reference Guide under "Reshaping Polygons and Chained Elements". You'll find a section called "Offset Polygon Edge".

what do you mean by archicad as as whole ? is learning through interactive traning guide(hungary microsoft office and Massaros house) not sufficient for basic knowledge of archicad, if not please guide me to other sources.

One suggestion: I don't know how you are doing the Interactive Training Guides. But if you are only watching the movies and do the steps, then it is advisable to read through the PDF file as well because it usually contains more comprehensive explanation and hints and tricks related to those steps. That can help too.
