<R>hi, guys. i fell disappointed with ac, i just try a little bit , and find out it not useful for structure guys. can not do columns pad footing, slab thicken panel(drop), nor capital of columns. nor folder-in slab. what are archicad guys doing here? there are always slab drop(fold-in) and columns capital in almost every building i ever see! </R>

tried Revit for a little while couldn't make a full set of construction documents,so it is disappointing
As I read it, Tom was asking for more information so as to understand what it is you are trying to do, and then I'm sure he will offer exactly the answer you are looking for, because that is what he does.

Eduardo justified his comment with a "sarcasm alert", letting you know he is being humourous, and quite legitimately suggested some training might be a good idea.
Don't be offended by people's comments towards a "question" that is more scornfull than it is a call for help.
What sort of column capital are you trying to do? Ionic? Doric? Corinthian? What is wrong with a slab as a pad footing? What is a "folder-in" slab?

Give us some more clues to what you are having trouble with, and someone will be able to help.
well, finally, good to hear "s2art" asking about "what is capital". let us focus on technical item.you and me can not affort to spend time on something else in this ac forum."capital" and "slab drop panel" mean the same things. thickening a slab portion to resist the large shear force on slab. capital usually 45 degree upwards from top of columns. and fold-in slab means different elevation in 2 slab area so we should set transfer "beam" (fold-in) on the slabs's border. and all different style of footing. strip, pad, cassion, ...maybe ac only for architecture or people here all work in architectural area? but you still have to tell constrution guys how to do when you make archi detail. even i checked revit structure 2 , they only have slab drop , no columns capital, nor slab step.
Consider that you went right past Tom's constructive inquiry for more information to attack ejrolon's self-described sarcasm.

This is a professional forum. If you choose to conduct yourself in this way in it, you find that you are wasting only your own time, because you will be ignored. Not attacked, ignored.

To your question. The column tool is of somewhat limited ability. The details you describe all require objects IMO.

We would all like more parametric capability in the basic tools. In the meantime it takes training, practice, and workarounds. Any software can do anything, in the hands of a serious, capable user. One of the best resources for becoming capable is this forum, should you choose to use it that way.

couple of things . . .

linmin9 wrote:
... and all different style of footing. strip, pad, cassion ...

as james said, what you require are more parametric objects/element-accessories rather than plain 'tools': you wouldn't want to alter the line of your slab and then have to go back and repeat the operation for the footings, etc. would you? take a look at cadimage's 'accessory tools' pack...

http://www.cadimage.co.nz/main.php?main=8&side=38

it will allow you to do most things that you would ever want with slab edges. also, take a look at the complex profiles in archicad 10 - they may suit some of your other needs (training required).

second thing...

linmin9 wrote:
... "capital" and "slab drop panel" mean the same things.

speaking as someone who's worked/lived in several different countries and liaised with people in others, architectural terminology isn't always "the same thing". sure, maybe we can work it out with a bit of head scratching and some time . . . but a little more info, or even screenshots of what you want to acheive and what you are acheiving would help the people who drop into this forum in <S></S>their spare time<E></E> to help others . . .

I think a very simple object could achieve my interpretation of your needs. Look at "precast column 10" for a column with a capital. This does not have a footing, but often footings are modeled with the slab or wall tool and only happen (in my case) on the story below story 1

And Tom was even quicker!

BTW, for the column capital as suggested, I would use a flat roof, under the slab, slope the edges. Makes perfect sense.

5 hours by my calculation...one might think it was days or even weeks.

And Tom was even quicker!

BTW, for the column capital as suggested, I would use a flat roof, under the slab, slope the edges. Makes perfect sense.

That was my thought, but I didn't feel like answering after the original poster had the little hissy fit.

While each of us might be a whale shark in his/hers own pond, remember that here we are in an ocean.

So don't ever assume that the persons you ask something actually know what are you talking about. Language, differrence in practices and professional qualification (architect in the US is not the same as architect in Europe) curriculii is a great ground for misunderstanding.

Let's all take it easy and be SURE that we are understood first. Posting a screenshot is invaluable as the picture speaks a thousand words.

As Ben said - after working on three continents and more countries than I can remember now, assuming that the other person actually know what are you talking about is dangerous.

And as old Ronnie once said in very different circumstances, "Trust, but verify."

Trust: that people are volunteering their time to help their colleagues (and pick up a few tips along the way) not to polish and tune-up their flame-throwers.

Verify: that you are being understood (and/or not misunderstanding others), and elucidate as needed.

As Djordje says, pictures help a lot. Everyone here should have a good screen capture method.
