FINISH PLAN - best way to accomplish task?

If you are handy with a bit of scripting then you could make youe objects show differently based on a Model View Option. (version 13 & 14 we can now create our own MVO's).

So basically in the 2D script you would say ... if MVO for dotted fixtures is on then show as dotted lines only.
As well as create the MVO option.

It is obviously a bit more complicated than that but if you know your scripting you should be able to sort it.

For the fills the best way is to not place separate fills in each room.
You will need to add nodes and stretch the fill from one room throuh the door and into the other room.

Do your objects HAVE TO BE dashed, or is transparent enough? There is already an option to do this (Transparent) in MVO's, even back in AC11. Of course, there's no guarantee that this feature was not removed in later releases, as door swing display was changed in 13 (then put back in 14, I believe)

As far as the door threshold goes, most door objects i've used (generally cadimage d/w builder and the standard AC library ones) have the option to switch off fills and wall contour lines which should let the floor fill show through.

Is your floor finish a cover fill of the floor slab, coverfill of a seperate tiling slab or a separate 2d fill? depending on which, you may need to experimant with the drawing order of the various elements to get it to show how you want.

For the objects, adjusting the script to take advantage of the MVO would i think be ideal. The quick and dirty method i've used in the past to achieve this is as follows:

• create a new layer e.g. object outlines;

• create a new layer combination to suit (which shows the outline layer but not the layer the objects are on);

• place a copy of the required objects on the outlines layer; with only the outlines layer showing, explode the copies (selecting to keep elements only), delete any resulting fills and unwanted lines. select all remaining and ajust line colour and type as preferred;

• this step is, i think important (based on experience ) have both the object layer and outline layer switched on; use the appropriate selection method to select, in turn, each object and its outline and use cntl-G to group them together. This way, if you have to make changes to the object position, switch groups on (Alt-G) and make sure layers are unlocked, even if the outline layer is off, the outline will move to follow the object.

Sounds a bit messy, i know, but only because i've tried to list every step. In practice, not too difficult.

thanks all for your responses.
I'll have to experiment with a few of these.

We are trying to convince my boss that normally, in typical "FiNish Plans" you actually 'do' see the cabinets, the toilet fixtures, the casework...etc...but he's a bit stubborn and is constantly wanting to the software to do something it wasn't meant to do.......hence my job description. Find ways to make Archicad do something it was never programmed to do......

Oh well, I guess that's how you discovery/learn/invent ways to get around hurdles eh.

Using MVO
The fill in the library parts is a DRAFTING fill, whereas the fill on the floor slab is a COVER fill.

You can have a model view option that Override Drafting Fill
yet leaves the Cover fill showing, see screen shot.
