How to make the structure?

Hello to everybody!
I'm new on the forum and it's my first time to post a thread. So I would be grateful if you can give me an advice or tip how to realize my project in Archicad. I want to make my project (shown on the scale model) using a metal structure (shown on the 2 images bellow the scale model), but I don't have idea how. Can someone give me advice how to start?

There are different ways to approach the problem and you will need to explore which will give the best result.

Items you will need to read in the Help Files:

1. Mesh
2. Custom Profiles
3. Layers (Wireframe)
4. Beams
5. Morphs - Once you get the idea using Beams for the rough in then you can try using morphs to develop more detail.

I am assuming that you know AC basics like drawing, opening 3D window etc.

1st step is to draw in floorplan the shape with the intersections.

Then I would Magic Wand a Mesh to the perimeter of the shape

Which will give the following result in the 3D Window.

BTW change material for the mesh for the screenshots and also made the Mesh a single plane.

Then I will edit the intersection points of the mesh elevating them into their position.

Change the Mesh layer to Wireframe, in this case it is the Layer L-Site

Using Complex Profiles create the section of the Beam.

After drawing the section for the Beam you would draw a Beam connecting to of the meshes points.

Apply the Complex Profile to the Beam

This should give a Basic model of what you need. The next items are designing the joints and adding more detail to the Beams by either convert to Morphs (right click and select convert to Morph) or redoing them with the Morph tool.

I might have skipped some details but I think you get the idea.

Thank you so very much! Without your instructions I wouldn't know even how to start. Well here is how my work is progressing so far.
And when I will come to the point when I have to put closure on this structure, like cover (curtain walls, roof structure) will it be possible to do so or not?
Thank you again for the help! I know that Archicad has so many opportunities and there is still so much for me to learn and to explore.

It all depends on how you design the cover.

The easiest is to have a Mesh with no thickness on top which is the easiest which is a copy of the same base mesh that you used to align the structure moved +6" in Z

If you need to have thickness for it you could convert the new mesh to a Morph and use the tools to offset the planes and then you can move the cover down.

Converting the Mesh to a Morph and editing it.

1. Select the Plane
2. Offset a copy of the plane to the inside
3. Delete the unneeded part.
