To tell if the stair is a solid model cut it with the marquee and see if it looks hollow.

If you can't get the stair to cut the wall there is a ramp object in the library that should do the trick. Another approach would be to use a mesh and an intersection SEO with the wall. Trying to make roofs for this purpose would be an exercise in frustration.

<T>Attempted an SEO with a wall and stair in order to show curved wall below curved stair. Something I am doing is wrong. Does anybody have experience doing this?</T>

Some stair objects are not "Solid" elements and therefore do not work with Solid Element Operations.
What stair object are you using.
It is a circular stair, see attachment, I want to cut the curved wall to the bottom of the stringer, or 6" above the top of the steps (haven't decided). Would this stair be a "solid" element? if not, how would I use the roof tool to cut exactly where I want?
There is a curved ramp in the AC library which will trim the wall using SEO.

Using the mesh tool is you preferred option in that case, 8 clicks and it's done. No need for SEOs.
- click the 4 corners of your "wall"
- arc the 2 longer sides of the resulting rectangle
- set the height of the 2 highest points of the "wall" and Bob's your uncle...

Cheers
