i use AV works beta w/ 8.1 and it works great. very very fast and i believe very good quality rendering for what it is - a simple and uncomplicated renderer that works within archicad.

<T>Since AV works the only solution for the average Joe is not available on 8.1 the only solution is 7. So I vent back to 7 to work on a showroom. But then 7 crashes on OSX10.3 constantly. It is unusable.

I need quality rendering a couple of times a year. But then something does not work all because GS is incapable of producing a software for an architectural practice out of the box with decent rendering capabilities,

My question is what is AC- is it just a ling of graphical database manager? Because it does not render and it does not model</T>

I think ArchiCAD 8.1 has a usable rendering engine, but it is limited. For a lot of day-to-day work this suffices.

AV_Works is in beta for newer ArchiCAD versions.

I export ArchiCAD models into Cinema4D and 3ds max for better rendering. Cinema4D has a cheap version available, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Visualization is a whole different profession then architect/project engineer. Use other tools when you want to have professional results.

After my install of 10.3 Panther I noticed crashing with AC 7.0 as well. I deleted all my 7.0 Pref's and deleted the AC 7.0 and did a re-isntall, and all is well now.

ArchiCAD 8.1/VIZ4/max6/SketchUp3

I do not agree with your statement, Architecture is just that modeling and visualization of would be physical space within the confines of public safety (codes as minimum standards). The rest of it has nothing to do with Architecture but with project management, and unlicensed trade.

Archicad does not have a rendering engine what it has is a "joke" something GS should be ashamed of.

No I refuse using cinema 4d, it is not cost effective to teach an office.

Then 8.1 were enough of a hassle to give up years of practice to not be able to reuse valuable 3d resources, because all pre 8 Archicad 3d pars make things crash. This change was like going from paper to CAD it was horrible a big hole in my pocket.

In summary I spend more time screwing around with the computer than designing.

Conclusion I am ready for the next change a software that works and is carefully maintained with consideration to the end user and his accumulated intellectual property.
archicad is not my teacher or my master so i'm unhappy to make limited quality renderings. is a architectural commercial software product with serious limits - handicap on architectural renderings.
because is not freeware i have to pay for this infantile rendering ability.
what about the workflow process ?
it is so difficult to have a decent rederer ?
then why i cannot use archicad without quicktime - a visual software
