New problem with fills

Here is another problem with fills (as if the one I had wasn't enough..): The fill for insulation needs to be once vertical and once horizontal. How do I do it? I made a copy and rotate it but when I do it both fills rotate of the same degree. Any idea?

Why are fills so difficult to handle in Archicad? Autocad was way easier in this respect (hint hint!)

Fills are way too difficult to handle in Archicad. I mean fills as in vectorial fills and symbols. An easier to handle and customisable interface maybe?

Everything is difficult that is new or is different from what one knows in another software. 😉

Things have changed in AC 17 with the new Building Materials, making things a little challenging for all users to get used to the new way of doing things. But, it is worth the learning curve as the improvements percolate throughout the project making everything LESS work in the end.

In the case of your insulation... which I assume is a skin in a composite... the insulation that you choose in the Composite dialog is not a fill, as it was in the past, but is a Building Material that represents the attributes of the insulation - fill, appearance, intersection capability and thermal properties for energy analysis. This is a great thing.

Also great, is that now instead of editing a lot of things to get insulation to show up as you want everywhere... you just edit the insulation BM that you want to use. For example, I've shown Insulation Blanket in my attached screenshot. The factory setting in the US template for this material has the "Fill Orientation" set to "Project Origin" - which is not what you or I want. Simply change this to "Fit to Skin" and it should show up properly everywhere - roof composites, walls, floors, etc.

In you 'Fill Types' dialogue (where you set the fills up) just duplicate the fill and then set an new rotation angle for it.
Rename one as vertical and one as horizontal so you know which one is which when you go to use them.

Yup, I did it but I messed up somehow Now I have reanamed both and it's ok! Thanks Barry! You're my fill guru

Hi Barry just to let you know I found a way around it by sheer chance: I was putting some 2D objects in a drawing today and I came across this: the insulation object! Just put it in and change it as a normal object! No need to fill and it fits perfectly. It is in the library under 2dObjects and it comes both vertical and horizontal
