<R>Hello!
I am modelin one gothic fortress for renovation purposes.
So every opening are as described in topic title.
So how to get that without having window in 3d?
I know how to get it in 2d. I use classic windows and in model view options turn off windows. Is there that option for 3d?
or is there some custom empty opening?

here is the fortress I have to model:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.webdesign.elstro.hr/wp-conte ... c-grad.jpg">http://www.webdesign.elstro.hr/wp-content/gallery/gradevine/garic-grad.jpg</LINK_TEXT>
here is a movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm4cwuudy_g
I have to model only the main building.

please help me. it is urgent.</R>

Based on this you can model those Windows out of profiled walls and saved them as Windows. Setting the proper IDs is very important for it to work.

I would use a Ruled Shell to create this geometry.
This way I would have the inner surface of the reveal.

Then I would use the tip in the following article to achieve a solid body:

http://www.archicadwiki.com/CreatingShellsWithSolidBody

Then I would save the result as a Window.

this works.
only problem is now how to get proper floor plan. but this is small problem.
Draw wall as polygonal (since it is old building no wall sides are parallel). I can split wall into three walls. one will be as big as opening on floor plan. I can set that wall to be white. and on the floor plan I have what I need.
Here it go.
problem solved. there is link to illustrations of what I did:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/19 ... hslan.jpg/">http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/199/creatingopeningwithslan.jpg/</LINK_TEXT>
so,
I modeled walls using polygonal wall so I can match the floor plan of the opening. after that shell was modeled to be the same as floor plan of the walls. trimming bodies option is shell settings was set to editable as described in that little tutorial Laszlo posted earlier. then wall that matches the opening was selected. right click - connection and trim to roof/shell. after that shell is clicked when house on pointer gets black roof. Ac now asks you which part of the wall you want to preserve. I clicked on the part of the wall that is outside the shell (in may case above or below the shell), adn that is it.

wall that features that opening is set to be shown as outlines only on floor plan so opening can be displayed properly.

if there are any questions just ask.

Of course!
That is much simpler.
Nice job.

So this means that basically you can model the surface of any wall opening with the Shell Tool and cut it out from the body of the Wall with the Trim element to Roof/Shell command.

Thank you Laszlo!

I will have a lot to go with shell on this model. inside 2,4 meters thick walls are stairs, so I will try to use shell to get stair shaft.
in a few days when model is done I will present it here.
here is JPG with that bug I was talking about.

so I have two profiles which I use to create shell I need.I use ruled and detailed method to create shell, but instead of that left shell I often get the right one. it is not even close to what I need. sometimes it works right sometimes not. I can't figure out when and what is wrong.
I tried using lines, polylines and splines and always is the same. sometimes OKe sometimes not. if I split them into arch and base the those two shell are created. Is it possible to join that two shells into one?

One item to pay attention to is the Morphing Rule (Paired, Smooth). Since your two profiles have the same number of points, you should use Paired.
