That *&%@! grid in 3d window

is there a way to turn of the grid in 3d...? Please, it is slowing me down.

You can turn off the grid in the View menu > 3D View Mode > Editing Plane Display.

Well, thanks to Eric Bobrow who answered my query about that silly 3d grid and told me where to turn it off. Kudos to Eric and his knowledge.

Is there a way to turn off the editing plane.

Im finding it really annoying!

Archicad 17 doesn't have that same menu function that eric describes?

In the View Menu drop down, just under grid display you'll see editing plane display. (no longer in a sub-menu)

If you make the editing plane translucent, you don't have to turn it off, because you can see through it instead.
I would have thought Archicad should default to a translucent editing plane - because (as an example) it is puzzling to hit the 'm' key to measure something, only to have it instantly disappear. Then when you hit escape it reappears. It's almost as annoying as playing chasey trying to catch the pet palette as it dances around the screen.

Like me, if you don't find the Editing Plane Display option under the View > 3D View Mode menu, then go into Options > Working Environment > Menus, and add the Editing Plane Display option to it... from the left-hand side dropdown, Commands by Theme > 04 View list.

In fact, while you're there, go into the Toolbars section and add all the editing plane commands to the Classic 3D Navigation toolbar too (with a separator line, if you prefer).

Remember to "Redefine" your layout scheme if you want these changes saved for next time.

And then show your new 3D toolbar under Window > Toolbars
