<T>People

Everytime I launch AC 9 a System Restore Checkpoint is created that displays "Printer Driver Amyuni PDF Converter 2.09 Installed".
This results to endless restore points after a period of week for example.
How can this be fixed?
Thank you in advance</T>

This bug has been reported and only affects Windows XP users.

The behavior drives me crazy. The reason for the checkpoint is that AC 9 is installing the Amyuni driver <S></S>every <E></E>time it starts up, and Windows creates a restore point whenever a driver is installed.

There is no way that we as users can stop this behavior. It has two negative effects: (1) startup is slowed down quite a bit (15 to 30 seconds slower for me) and (2) eventually, your "good" restore points are erased from the disk, the only ones left being the ArchiCAD Amyuni ones.

My workaround is to start AC 9, and just leave it open. I close the current project and just minimize. Only time I start it is if I forget and close it, or if I restart the computer.

AC 9 starts up much faster on my Mac because this issue doesn't exist there.

Again, Graphisoft is aware of this situation. (Personally, I'm amazed that so few other people have noticed it!)
Thank you Karl for your reply.
I am really sorry for posting under three different topics but I was SO disapointed when I discovered that issue.
I am at the moment trying to eliminate the problem using the Group Policy Editor.Maybe by trying to prevent Windows from installing new printers but something doesn't fit in.
I 've noticed that for the period of time AC 9 is open a new printer called "_Archicad Temporary Printer" is displayed in the Control Panel. The driver that "printer" uses is the Amyuni PDF Converter. When I close AC 9 the printer is erased from the Control Panel. It must have something to do with the Publisher although I can't find a relevant setting from within AC 9 to disable this behaviour.
I just hope Graphisoft publishes a fix soon since I can't use System Restore any more.

No problem. I believe the phantom printer has something to do with the "save as PDF" feature (as opposed to print to PDF).
Hi
Just my 2 cents worth, (and it might not be the appropriate forum),.. I have for some time (sine AC7) been using a program called Fine print P D F Factory from Fine print software to create pdf's. Just like Adobe, it adds a PDF printer driver to your list of installed printers. The big difference is that you have the option to emulate one of the other printers in your list of installed printers or plotters (on windows), which it then uses to create the PDF. It also adds options re security, passwords, embedded file info etc.
Im sure that I'm not alone in having had the experience of only really understanding plotting and printing options on "trial and many error basis".
This simple option of being able to emulate drivers saves a lot of time in having to play around with settings to get the required output. As I generally tend to produce similar outputs, and consistency is a criteria, you generally get to know which drivers produce which setting, etc, especially in the dynamic world of plotter drivers - like other miniscule firms I outsource all my large -format and large colour plots.
I'm uncertain if Amyuni has this functionality as I'm still using FP due to its ease of use!

Like Fritz, we have also used PDF Factory (www.fineprint.com) for several years. Recommended product. When the Amyuni came out I tested it - but didn't like the resulting pdf's, the speed or the file sizes.

However recently we have noticed 'issues' with PDF-Factory when printing from Word (with embedded & scaled graphic images) - it seems its jpg algorithms are not wholly optimized and it is very easy to get 1Mb+ pdf's from just one sheet of A4 (7x11').

After two months of testing (all kinds of files) with PDF Exchange (www.docu-track.com) we have decided that this is the way for us to go in 2005. And it is still 1/4 price of Acrobat!
