Hi Cameron,

All good thoughts in your post. The best place to post the symbol/part and images of what you want is in the "Libraries / Library Parts / GDL" forum with Wall Ends or some such as the subject, as here. Post a note here to point readers of this thread to that one.

My December is a bit overwhelming, so personally I won't be able to look at it this month (or I shouldn't, let's say!).

Cheers,
Sounds like both. <E>😉</E> I've used the wall end tool a bit, but only for interior walls where the skin line is the same on both the reference and non-reference side, so I haven't seen the problem you describe. Rushing to head out for a few days, or I'd try to reproduce your issue...
Surpsised nobody responded while I was gone ... maybe nobody uses wall ends after all!?

OK. I see the problem now with the "wrapped end". I agree, it needs to use the line types of each appropriate side.

What I've been using is the "Returned End" ... which has an on/off param to 'flip turn direction'. This parameter selects either the outermost reference line pen or the outermost non-ref line pen to be used for the end-line pen.

When the two outside skins are the same, this part gives the same effect as a 'wrapped end', and with easier use IMHO. Further, each side has the correct line pen ... and as noted above, you can choose which pen to use for the end.
Hi Karl,

I've modified the 3D symbol such that if wall material A = B there's no line and if they'd different, you'll have a hairline (as you probably wouldn't want to use a heavy line like the wall perimeter.

So, you can now use this for 'wall end' and 'returned wall'.

But, as GDL goes, this symbol should be even more of a 'jack of all trades' but without being too overly complicated, for example:

1. Brick composite with GWB interior: You'd like the demising line to be a double line to represent a reveal.

2. GWB clad partition with Paint A on one side and Paint B t'other I'd also go with a reveal to neatly stop the paint lines --- but it may not lay on the same line as the skins (ie. you may wish to have it 50mm in to give it some bite).

3. Wall surface A may be a feature surface intended to shoot past the wall end by 25 or 50mm for effect ---- likewise, it'd be great to have that built in.

I'd like to tweak this puppy and post it back for others to use - any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I find the GS symbols to be hugely lacking in what should be their strength - parametric intelligence! Why have one symbol for 'wrapped end' (which doesn't work) and another for 'returned end' (which does work) when the symbol should be able to figure out it's condition parametrically!!!!

The only human intervention should be 'where do I want the paint line reveal' and 'should I extend this feature skin beyond the wall end'.

I want to design with wall surface A = B and then afterwards go in and make A <> B (even if its just colours) - and we should all reasonably expect the symbol to take care of that basic change for me!

But, given that GS can't do everything it'd be good for the AC community to help work on the refinements so:- Is there somewhere I can post the symbol for you and others to look at it?
