thanks for the info. i did just figure out what could be another work around.
i could just annotate the plan by layers like you said then when i am done i can use the detail tool. this way i would be able to update the plan as i would normaly. if i make changes to the plan i can go to the detail tool and have it update from the source file. it seems like this will work so i guess i will try it and find out. Thanks...

if i have an 1/8" plan i am working on and want to do a blow up of,
lets say a ADA bathroom, how does the rest of the AC community do this? i am wanting all the detail symbols to be referenced by PM. If i use the detail tool on the bathroom it will unlink & make the bathroom into 2d lines.
(in the detail window) if i dont use it this way then i have to manully reference the plan key. it seems to me that being able to link a detail symbol to any of my view sets would be nice. That way i could link my detail symbol to my 1/4" view set of my ADA plan. or can i do something like this and just don't know.

Thanks for any help....

You would go mad doing this via the detail tool as not only does it go 2d but the origin moves tothe centre of the detail. Might as well be doing it with a pencil. Use a layer for annotations at the detail scale and unfortunately you will have to manually reference.
