Adding text to dimensions as you describe will require placing the text manually with the text tool. I'm sure this is not what you were looking for, but at least the dimensions remain associative.

Perhaps you should add this to the wish list.

<T>Previously I have used a programme that enables text below a dimension line, eg: room name under dimension. This enables the dimension to remain associative.

Do you know if there is a command to achieve the same and still keep the dimension and room name associative?

Many thanks
Objects Online has an add-on called Automatic Room Sizer that may be just what you are looking for. It labels the room and adds the dimensions...move the walls and the dimensions will change too.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply. Just wondering where I might find "Objects Online", is that within ArchiCAD or on the net?

Ciao for now
It kind of has but the name can't go below the dimension text.
Not even if you use "\n" like you can in other text fields.
