So, let me make sure we're both on the same page here; when you draw a line that you want to plot as 1', you're drawing it in ArchiCAD as a literal 3/16"? Or are you using your scale marker and setting your .pln file in 3/16" = 1 scale?

<T>hello all,

right, so I'm very new to archicad, and I'm already liking it a lot more than architectural desktop, which is the program I used prior to archicad.

anyway, I'm having a spot of trouble with plotmaker, where i set the output scale to make the plan fit the page, but in the autotext for output scale, it shows 1' = 1'-0"

I have a feeling that I'm doing something wrong when I'm setting the output scale, so ill let you know how I'm doing that. when i add a drawing to the layout i rightclick on it and select settings, then on the window that comes up, under "attribute update rules" i select "custom for this drawing" and then uncheck layers, and scale. next under "attributes" i set the scale (in this case to 1/4" = 1'-0")

any help would be appreciated.

cheers,
Hi Dan

Are you not setting the scale when you save the view in view sets? If not, try it. Then you should not have to change scale of view in PM.
On another note; are you using your drawing scale tags in plotmaker's title types? I've created my own scale marker in the Title Types option of plotmaker, and I won't go back to using the scale markers in the .pln vews.

Here's what I have started doing:
-Save the view by the name of what you want it to display in the .pln file that you are working on. i.e. Floor Plan, Foundation, Front Elevation, etc. etc.
-open up your layout book and from the navigator select, Tree by Subsets from the option navigator.
-Go to Title Types, right click and select, New Title Type. This will open up a blank window that you can start creating your scale marker in. I just made a circle with a line heading out from the right side (much like most of them.
-once you have your general design layed out, click on the text tool, and type "Scale: <OUTPUTSCALE>" for your scale (this will reflect the scale changes if you make them in plotmaker!!). I also like to use "<DRAWINGNAME>", in my scale marker. This will reflect the scale, and view name.

The other nice thing about using titles/scale markers in this manner is that I can easily move the marker around in Plotmaker, instead of opening up the project in archicad, and moving it to where I need it.

Chad - I'm using a custom title block that I made, that uses the auto text feature, so in one box of the title block there is a text field that reads "Scale: <OUTPUTSCALE> " and it doesn't come back with "output scale not defined", it always returns 1' = 1' - 0" like i mentioned earlier.

s2art - I will actually start doing that, but thats actually not the problem because in the viewset the scale was set to 1/4" = 1' - 0"

... i'm so baffled by this, thanks for the input thus far though, if any of you have anymore ideas Id love to hear em
Here, try using my layout and import one of your .pln views into it and see how it translates with your scale marker. . .
I find it humourous that I'm bringing this thread back to life, seeing as how it was the first post I ever made here, but I guess thats the way the cookie cumbles...

Basically, I still haven't resolved this problem, I've still been manually typing the scale onto the plotmaker drawing. to clarify:

Floor Plan scale: 3/16" = 1'-0" (1:64)
View Set scale: 3/16" = 1'-0" (1:64)
The scale setting is locked in PlotMaker
Auto text : <OUTPUTSCALE>
shows / prints as 1" = 1'-0"
Auto text: <DRAWINGSCALE>
shows / prints as 1' = 1'-0"

this is just annoying now, because when I came here 6 months ago with this problem, I'd only been using AC for a week or so, and now I'd like to assume I'm much more proficient but yet this same problem is starting to haunt me.
Daniel,

I'm just guessing about your problem, but the autotext scale function needs to be attached to a specific drawing, either by embedding it in the original AC drawing itself, or by putting it in a title, which is then attached to the AC drawing by Plotmaker. If you just enter it in directly from Plotmaker, it is picking up the entire layout page's scale, which is 1'= 1'-0". Hope that's clear.

Back at ACUWest one of Graphisoft's team showed a way making a scale relate to a particular drawing, not the overall layout.

I thought it was alt-clicking a drawing and/or using the option in the edit menu to
set as autotext reference

Unfortunately I can't get that to work. Does anyone else remember how it was done?

Yes. In each Layout Book, you can define "Title Types" that allow you to have different titles for use on your drawings.

You can also place the AutoText in Archicad and have Plotmaker fill it in.
