<R>I made a PDF from a layout that included a simple floor slab with a cover fill. The file size of the resulting PDF was about 5.4MB. When I went back to the slab tool and unchecked the cover fill box at the botton, the resulting PDF was reduced to 232KB! Why is this?</R>

The Cover Fill might contain an image (which it is not downsamping) and more vectorial elements than the one without and the pdf compression engine might be more efficient with less elements.
Is that quote from Dire Straits-The Bug?

Thanks for your explanation about the cover fill. I had come to just about the same conclusion myself.

The "quote" at the bottom of my signature comes from my subconscious. Who knows where it was before that!
