You can try a piece of software called fineprint, it can place up to 8 pages on one sheet, we use all the time for review work you can print 1, 2, 4 or 8 layouts per page. try this link http://www.fineprint.com/

I am investigating a way of printing from ArchiCAD so that two layouts may be printed side by side on one sheet. In printing half sized sets... we are wasting a lot of paper so having the ability to print two layouts side by side on a 12"x36" fall off would alleviate this. Is there any way to print two layouts on one sheet?

It depends on your plotter/lg format printer driver. If it is HP it's probably a no go. An Oce may be able to do it but if it's not automatic it may be quite a chore. I have always found the easiest solution is to use a medium format printer with half size sheets.
