I have a couple of files with external reference that haven't changed since I started the project, yet every time I open the files, the referenced files show as 'modified'. Vexing. What exactly is the drawing manager looking for to tip it off that anything has been modified? IMO, as an external reference, it ought to look at date modified - period.

we have a multi unit project where I am importing drawings from variou pln files to publish. I have imported plans and schedules but I am constantly getting the modified status even when no changes are made. Even if I re-import the drawings or schedules I am getting the same message.
You might be safe to consider this a bug.. I do. Maybe it will be fixed one day. The whole drawing manager needs a fix.

Something to note about the 'Store Drawing in the Project File' option in the Drawing Settings:

If it is not checked, everytime you change applications (eg. from AC to Photoshop and back to AC) ArchiCAD does a quickcheck telling you the status of your drawing. I am not 100% sure what constitutes a change in drawing status and fear that only GS programmers really do.

This doesn't only happen when you switch applications, but it's also a time dependent action. Apparently AC quickchecks the status of drawings approximatly every minute. For external files quickchecking means that AC is checking the time of change of that file, which is a very fast process if the file is on a mounted volume.

If the file isn't on a mounted volume the quickcheck takes longer and if the file is on a not reachable volume (eg. the computer is turned off or the sharing is switched off), then the quickcheck can take 10,20, or even more seconds to receive the information that the file is not reachable. AFAIK it is not possible to stop this process.

If 'Store Drawing in the Project File' is checked, the contents of the drawing is added to the project, consequently the file size goes up, but the update is much quicker. The timed quickcheck seems to turn off, but if ArchiCAD is switched out with another program even for a second, the Status will change.

I don't think there is any way of improving the situation without fuinctionality changes from Graphisoft.

Well, at least you know it's not just you!
This problem is really slowing me down. All my drawings (plans, sections, & elevations, and more) show as 'modified' once I open the file, and whenever I open or publish a layout, everything will update automatically, which is fine, except that it takes very, very long to do so.

(I've noticed that plans generate & update quite fast - but the sections take forever!)

All of these drawings are of course, stored in file, and set to Auto update.

I really would like to keep them 'Auto' update because they are the most basic drawings - but it's really slowing me down.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it something wrong w/ my file?
I wonder if it's the latest hotfix that's causing it.

I can imagine that it can start taking a long time when you have dozens of Drawings.
I would set them to Manual Update.
Then you can go to the Drawing Manager and update all modified Drawings in one step, whenever YOU want to.
