Clarification: The zoom factor is the same for all layouts in terms of percentage. If you have all 24x 36 sheets and you have zoomed to a percentage that fits the entire layout in the window then all 24" x 36" sheets will be framed the same. If you have a mix of layout sizes though then the 8.5" x 11" sheets will fill less of the window and if you have a 42" x "36" sheet then it will show as cropped.

Imagine the zoom like a swing arm magnifying glass above a table. It stays at the same height for all sheets on the table below. As you adjust the height of the magnifying glass, all sheets will now display at the new zoom.

<T>So...whenever I double click (enter) into any particular layout....I want to automatically "SEE" the entire sheet layout as my FIRST view when I open a layout.

I know with "VIEWMAPS" you can designate and save the "CURRENT VIEW" parameters so you can see the "whole" view map when you go to view it....but how do I do that with a LAYOUT (sheet)?</T>

View information is not saved with a Layout. The only way is to make sure you are viewing the extents of a layout before you leave layout view. Then when you come back you'll be in the same relative place in whatever layout you go to.

Rob,

•Layouts do not have the same function as a saved View.
•So you need to set the zoom after opening the layout.
•However, the zoom factor will remain constant for all layouts until you zoom in or out to a different zoom factor.
•You can use the <S></S>Fit in Window<E></E> command have the layout quickly fill the space.
thank you.
I suppose...as a habbit one could simply remember to hit the "zoom extents" button EVERY time you leave a layout....but who really does that?
Maybe if it eventually gets too annoying seeing the layout zoomed way in....I'll remember to hit the zoom extents before leaving all layouts.

Now..do ALL layouts react to the same zoom extents or is it a 'per layout' condition as to how it will look from layout to layout?

YES, good point on this one.
so....then....I suppose that the ideal "zoomed out" area would be, say the 'sheet only' edges. If you zoom out to only where the layout (sheet) edge is...then all sheets (layouts) will follow suite.

If I have a layout book with hundreds of layouts I'd rather zoom a couple of times when switching sheet sizes rather than set hundreds of saved views. And what happens if you change the master to a set of drawings?

Having an option to automatically zoom to the extents of master layout would be preferable IMHO.
