topic Labels and Notes in Documentation

<T>Just wondering how some of you go about labeling things in plan. In order to maintain a cleaner plan, we label objects (A/C unit, decorative column, etc) with a note (G-1, G-2, etc), and then have a "General Notes" list off to the side with what each note means. I'm thinking that it would be nice if the note tool (let me see if I can explain this) would have a separate area for some text that would not show on plan, but could be pulled out via the calculations menu. This way the labels on plan and the notes list on the side would always be in sync. Hope this makes sense.

I'm thinking of posting this as a wish, but I would first like to see if there's a better way of dealing with this.</T>

You can accomplish your request with a custom Label object. My office uses many custom Label objects to do just what you are explaining. Then we have a Calculation List Scheme set up to list what we need from the labeled elements.

Oh wow, what a novel idea. Thanks for the answer. I SWEAR I'm gonna read the manuals one of these days... (or at least study the tools closer).

But (meanwhile, back at the batcave) to verify, you're saying that I CAN have a label show one thing yet keep a paragraph's worth of information to be retrieved via calculation option? Sounds good. I guess I'll need to get crackin' on some more GDL. Any pointers?
You've taken the first step by realizing the potential of GDL. If you've never used a programming language before I would recommend opening up some of your existing library objects to "see how they tick". Be careful... GDL can be addictive.
